You engage for an hour with a trained therapist whose guidance you seek. He gives you an answer that you don't like and you ask us should you change therapists. Do you know what the real answer is? It is find the therapist whose answers you like. If you knew all the answers why you going to a therapist in the first place. Stick with the one you got. He calls as he sees it. Discuss it with your doctor like he suggested. Or switch therapists until you find one that gives you all the answers that you think you should have. Maybe you'll find one who says bury a dead fish. You get my point?

So you went to a psychologist not a psychiatrist. The former is not allowed to prescribe any medication because they aren't medical doctors and as he has suggested you talk about it with your GP I assumed he can't give you a prescription himslf. I think you should probably go to a psychiatrist. They are more qualified when it comes to judging if you need medication or not. Psychologists can only talk...
You need to get them. They're very sensitive and can spot mental health problems quickly. therapy does work but it's directly proportional to the honesty you put in

I say, maybe tell him that. Some therapist assume its the best quick response. Perhaps tell him how you felt about it and that way if he had other things behind it he could explain himself.
Tell him you'd prefer to see how therapy goes before trying a prescription. But keep open minded about it. If you do need meds, take them.
i don't think antidepressants are such a great idea. once upon a time, i took herbal ones and they only made me depressed.
