We are being warned to stop being so rough because our basketball league is 'co-ed'? WTF is that normal?

We have a basketball intramural league at our college, and a lot of us take it pretty seriously. However there are a handful of girls playing and they are physically outmatched. A few of them got injured and complained, now all the males are being told to stop being 'so rough'.

Is this normal? How do co-ed leagues function if people don't play hard?

Unfortunately, this is completely normal at my school and has been throughout my entire academic career. Although the girls and I never got a break. We would P. E with bruises, but it made us better players. If it's a basketball league they do need to suck it up, because it's not going to be all roses and sunshine. If they want to get better, they need to challenge themselves, regardless of how "rough" you guys are playing.

They should have a girls league. IMHO. Bball is a contact sport... You're gonna get roughed up.

I saw your comment. If it's just a few girls, it won't kill you to ease up when they're in. It's a rec league. I remember in college the girls who had played sports in hs had to ease up on the teams of girls who hadn't. Unless a guy's that twat who takes IM waaaay to seriously, I'd like to think he'd do the same is some much scrawnier guys were playing too.

Yeah, guys don't do that. If a guy is huge he will lay out a smaller guy if he has to do. And the smaller guy knows it. There is no mercy. But when females enter the picture some guys play hard while others don't know what to do. It throws everything off.

There's really no "has to" in IM ball. I agree you still want to do your best, but at the end of the day nobody there made it onto the varsity so it's all fun and games.

I don't mean don't play hard, I mean stuff like cut the bows while rebounding, set legal screens, use your superior speed to dribble around her rather than plowing her down drawing the +1. Etc.

Make a complaint yourself and tell your college that they need to make separate teams if the girls can't keep up. Potentially talk to the girls and get their support with this.

Co-ed leagues don't work. Men are physically superior. Period.

They can't make a girls league because the interest isn't there. Only a few girls are interested in playing basketball. We were told due to Title IX or something that if they can't have a league they need to join ours.

It's co-ed. It's suppose to be fun. If you're that serious then join/start an all guys BB league.

The girls should have their own teams. But we're living in an era when common sense is in short supply.
