Do you think some people need laser eye surgery?

Example: people with such bad eye sight, that most things seem invisable and glasses are too expensive. For me just looking at gag on my pc, without my glasses the screen is just white. The pictures and text are blurred to the point of being invisable.

I read that medicaid doesn't cover laser eye surgery, due to it not seeming like something you need. Well with how horrible my eye sight is and how my lenses are around $300. I think they should make it a need for people like that. If I get the shittiest lenses possible the cheapest I could ever get is $150.

Speaking from experience, lasik Is not covered by insurance. I've been wearing glasses since I was in the 5th grade and last year I finally got lasik done, it was a blade less and it didn't hurt at all! Feels like I've been reborn again, it's really nice to have a great vision again. So I think vision is very important and people do need their eyesight, and Medicaid won't cover it because it's poor insurance. I had to pay out of my own pocket.

Just save your money when you need new lenses, keep adding and you'll get enough for laser eye surgery.

It cost $4,500. It's a lot for ten seconds per eye.

@Artist20 exactly. I've been getting new glasses for years that were over $200 so add them all up in the span of 16 years i could've saved that money for lasik. It's really the BEST DECISION! you won't regret it. I know I sound like an ad but it's truly worth it. If you have more questions I can tell you what they did exactly.

@Artist20 well you have to be a candidate, they test your blood pressure of the eyes to see if you can handle the procedure. Once they say you're good to go, they hand you a sheet of the instructions for the procedure. Then they put eye drops in both eyes to numb them, and test it to make sure you don't make any movements during the procedure. Finally, they take you to the laser room where it's cold (it has to be cold so there is no cause of bacteria or infection). They lift up the flap, and you have to look into the green/red light for 10 seconds and then they close the flap back, put a protective contact lens over it to protect it. Repeat the process for the other eye. You could actually see that same day, but you have to wear dark sunglasses all day. Actually this video explains everything better than I ever could. It's only 1 minute and 11 seconds.

@Artist20 yeah it's called the flap, it's like a door to the house.. They open it and close it. It heals within 3 weeks or so.

It's the, in my opinion much better, and permanent alternative to glasses or lenses. Do people 'NEED' it? No. Will it be a great relief for them in their daily life and hence should be more affordable or covered by health insurance? Absolutely.

What I mean by need I mean like if their eye sight is already extremely bad at a young age. Then they got the laser eye surgery and if having it done keeps their eyes from becoming even worse once they're old.

The contact lenses I use cost me around $60... for six months, and they are very comfortable, so I don't see the need of an eye surgery. But I agree some people do need it. However you have to weigh pros and cons, cause from what I have heard those lasik eye surgeries can lead to some complications (they literally burn your cornea for that). Also people need that surgery again after 10-15 years from what I know

I honestly don't care if the surgery doesn't completely fix my sight. I just want my vision to be a little better than it is now. So glasses would be cheaper and I would be so horribly doomed if they broke. Like I am right now. :D

Yeah many people cannot tolerate them, I wear the oxygen permeable ones, they are called Biofinity by Coopervision. They are specifically made so that people won't have dry eyes. But yeah if you think that Lasik is for you, you should go for it. I have dry eyes syndrome too and it is said that people with dry eyes syndrome are sometimes discouraged from getting Lasik. You should consult a good eye specialist though, who'll be able to give you more proper advise I suppose.

yeah in case of contacts you have to experiment with different brands to see which one suits you the best. I myself had tried two-three brands, before zeroing in on this one

They've actually been steadily and noticeably getting worse since high school for me. Double vision developed, astigmatism got worse, prescription jumped from $150 to $180 at one point. Just getting worse... I'm hoping I stop at 24 like you but I seem to have caught my moms side bad vision.

I need it for my left eye. I don't wear glasses but I need them to correct that eye. My right eye is fine.
My doctor told me the reason I get headaches frequently might be because my left eye and my right eye is trying too hard to compensate.

I will be getting corrective surgery in the future when I save up money.

Obviously do your own research. But laser eye surgery is cool. Just go with the Lasek rather than the Lasik? since the latter doesn't heal properly and remains vulnerable.

Eye laser surgery is much more expensive than glasses though, so you can just wear glasses instead. It should be easier to get glasses though, I really need glasses but it's so complicated to get them that I dunno if I ever will

Mine are horribly thick and can't fit in any frames, plus they're horribly expensive to get. Which atm mine broke, so without my glasses I can't see any kind of text or pictures. I'm holding my cell phone 3 inches or less away from my face so I can read.

Yes most definitely!! In the long run youd save money. But insurance won't ever cover it because it's not medically necessary and as seen as a elective surgery. It sucks but it would be something I'd look into if I were you.

One of the cool things that they don't advertise is if you go over a certain altitude your eyeballs explode.'it's because your eyes aren't sown shut, the flap is just put back to seal on its own. It's why pilots aren't allowed it.

But if that didn't sell it for you, it's also not permenant unless you are old.
You are only supposed to have it once but many advertise twice. This actually increases the likelihood of your eyes exploding open.

But sure yeah, if you can't be bothered with contacts for two years and are happy with the price go for it.
