Do you have sympathy for people who are obese?

That does not include people who are obese due to a medical or mental condition (or have no choice or say in their lifestyle). This poll is about people who choose to eat 5000+ calories a day and not leave their house.

Sometimes I do feel bad for the medical problems they have (like frequent amputations and poor blood/water circulation), but I know that they chose to get that big.

Doesn't that apply for almost all people, who are obese? Mental illnesses are often only discovered (officially) until years after the condition started.

And. Yes, I do have sympathy on a basic level. That doesn't mean that I have to agree with their choices or like their personality. You never know their story.

No, it doesn't apply to all of them. By mental I meant people with special needs who are unable to care for themselves or even walk. By medical I meant people who have some disease that makes them completely unable to lose weight. Or, perhaps, those that take medication with a side affect of weight gain.
Those scenarios would not be the obese person's fault.

No. I have zero sympathy for people that I see who are basically 5x my body weight and are walking around carrying a 2L bottle of Coke in one hand and a bag from McDonald's in the other.

don't pity them nor do I blame them. Multitude of factors can contribute to someone becoming obese. Factors include: drugs, depression, injuries, lack of education, lower financial status, stress, mental health problems, poor life choices, or lack of discipline. I don't pass judgement, because it is not my place to do so.

A friend is overweight. If we meet for dinner it's a full meal & pie for desert.
Yet she can't keep up with the rest of us. Go figure?

I do. I know that it's their own fault but I do feel deeply sorry for them because I know that I myself lack self control in certain areas and I understand how sometimes, even thought you never intend for soemthing to happen, it still does. I know they are probably very unhappy and insecure people and so yes, I have a lot of sympathy for them

Not really they put a terrible strain on the NHS which affects everyone just because they have no willpwer.

Yeah, I know some of them really try hard to lose weight. And some just give up and decide to cope with the negative social stigma for the rest of their lives.

Sort of--the world can be a pretty scary place. Not everyone is equipped with the same physical, mental, and emotional stamina. There are some people more capable of 'adulting' than others.
