Coughing out blood?

yesterday i was eatting at the dinning table and my dad was drinking iced water and sitting on the couch all of a sudden he begins to cough and two squirts of blood drip out and stain his t-shirt what does this mean? i am really worried.

Did he ever smoke cigarettes? or drink a ton? because coughing up blood can be a sign of lung cancer, so I'd advise he get a chest X-Ray as soon as possible if they catch it early enough they have a good chance of getting it out of him before it spreads to much.

Or has he been really sick lately or is really sick at the moment? because if your really sick with a cough or cold if you cough hard enough you can bring up a little bit of blood.

@BubbleBoy69 Better to be over cautious and catch some horrible early and be able to get rid of it then not think it's anything and it ends up being something worse.

Besides I could be and I hope I am wrong, but wouldn't it be better to find out for certain? plus coughing up blood is one of the symptoms.

May i ask how old you dad is? Is he physically active still, meaning does he have shortness of breath?

Im not gonna' lie to you, it sounds bad. Putting my self in your dads shoes i dont think i could tell my teen daughter the truth if it was serious. Im sorry.

he went to the doctor today but he said he was fine but then again im the only one in the family who saw this and actually knows about it he prolly doesn't want to tell my mom because he doesn't want to worry her..

Probably something is not fine and he doesn't want to bother you with it. I really don't want to freak you out but it doesn't seem normal. Maybe sometimes when you're really sick (have a cough) you can cough so much that blood comes out. It happened to me once but it didn't squirt it. I just tasted it. But I was really sick with a cold and cough. Does he drink or smoke a lot?

He needs a chest x-ray before any doctor can tell them that he is fine. Did he have a chest x-ray? Is he lying to you? A chest x-ray is mandatory

A number of things: Lung cancer, Tuberculosis, respiratory illness, open wound in his mouth, bit his lip, hemorrhage in his throat, etc.

His history of smoking I assume lasted many years and he just quit one year ago. He's coughing up blood. That is called hemoptysis and can be the first sign of cancer of the lung. He needs a chest x-ray as soon as possible. This is not fooling around
