Isn't mortality depressing to contemplate?

I've read and seen things about how lifespans will be extended in the next few decades to basically add a year to your life expectancy for every year, and then within a few decades more to extend it indefinitely... so even if that is true then you'd get to live essentially forever unless some accident befalls you, but even then there would be some people who would die before that ever happened. :/

On the other hand if that doesn't come to fruition... the idea of one day being dead is terrifying, and it's weird to think that every single person whose ever lived before 1900 except for one is not alive anymore... and those people had almost zero reasonable hope of being able to live more than a century or so, or less in most cases.
