How does a tooth got decay during our life time and please say some home remedial measures?

I am an dentist i used to wonder how does cavity will form in a tooth decay what are the effects can be seen in our body due to tooth cavity.

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria growing and producing acid, which eats away at the enamel, then dentin causing a hole. A hole in the tooth is caused a cavity.
Poor dental health can have many effects on overall health. Gum disease can cause a greater risk of heart disease, and infected teeth can result in an abscess which can infect the bones in your jaw
