How long after wisdom teeth removal can I brush my teeth with toothpaste?

Its been 2 days I got my wisdom teeth out and it's not been painful yet but there is discomfort in my mouth. It feels dry , rough and stinks. If anyone knows please advice what can be done.

There should have been instructions for aftercare wherever you had them removed. I’d say as a precaution don’t brush near the area and tomorrow call the place you had them done and ask for details on the recovery plan.


I remember it’s a rough week at least after having them pulled and it comes in waves. There should be a way of cleaning the area and after a week it slowly heals. Hang in there and don’t worry as much about the smell.

Yes I've not felt that pain yet. Hope I never feel that pain. Still got 3 more to remove.

Hope you don’t feel the pain either. It’s less of direct pain and more the area trying to heal and producing discomfort. Ya I remember the blood clot being sensitive and like I said call them tomorrow to check in and get instructions on care

Dud you have stitches if they had to cut your gums. Just rinse with a good mouthwash.

I brushed mine the very next day. Just avoided the area where the wisdom tooth was removed.

If that area comes in contact with toothpaste, does it affect the blood clot?

It didn't for me. Just be very gentle and go very slowly and try not to spit too hard.

I've had 3 of my wisdom teeth taken out. One i had to get stitches.

Thank you so much for the help. by the way Did the stitched one healed slowly as compared to non stitched ones? Did they stitch in upper wisdom tooth or lower one?

The stitched up one healed faster because the stitches covered the entire hole, so nothing was able to get inside. The other 2 that were not stitched took a little longer to heal but I was back to eating normal within 5 days.

Your dentist should have stated when you can brush your teeth after extraction of your teeth.
