How to deal with extremely fast weight gain caused by medication?

Anonymous
I was on a medication that made me gain 50 pounds in a little over 6 months. I am off the medication now, and so far I have lost about 15 pounds. I am still over weight, and much heavier than I was before. I'm always afraid of going out in public and meeting my friends. People I haven't seen in a while will give me funny looks, as if they don't recognize me. I hate how people think I've "let myself go" or that I only eat junk food. In reality i am actually very healthy. The medicine I was on extremely slowed down my metabolism, making it impossible to eat and not gain weight. I feel so ugly and hate seeing pictures of myself. I am a teenager, and most of my friends (who have normal fast teenage metabolism) don't understand what I am going through. How can I deal with being fat until I lose all the weight?

****I'm not asking advise on how to lose the weight (because I already know how to lose the weight and have already lost some of it). I'm asking how to keep my self esteem up even if I don't look exactly how I want to look at the moment.****
