General Relaxation Massage. Do you prefer same or opposite gender massage therapist? Or does it matter?

Talking NON-sexual massage (no happy ending), and not sports medicine massage or physical therapy. Just a general (legit) full body massage. Do you prefer your massage therapist to be the same gender, opposite gender, or does it matter at all?

I asked this question basically to get a feel for why LMT seems to be a mostly female profession. I have a cousin that is a LMT, and she says that the places that she's worked, only about 10% of massage therapists are men. It seems most men usually prefer a female therapist, and women are about 50/50 on preferring another female, vs not really caring one way or the other.

Another female. I got a foot and shoulder massage from a guy once, and while he was working on my shoulders I felt like I was gonna die. I actually couldn't breathe, and was actually saying my goodbyes to the world. Not kidding. The next week my shoulders were very tender, even the lightest backpack was a torture. Never again a guy masseur.

Generally I prefer male, I feel less judged and can relax more. It's all in my head, but if I'm paying I want to make it as pleasant experience as possible

At update... it is a female dominated career choice. My man wouldn't never want to be massaged by a man, it's too intimate for him. Being naked and a man touching him isn't an relaxing thought. I usually will go with a woman just because I feel like they are usually better. It's always in the back of my mind that a guy might not be professional and being naked around another man seems wrong. I've gotten more massages by women mainly because that the only choice usually. Men that have done it haven't been as good as the women therapists. I just want a good massage. Sometimes men tend to be more gentle because they think they'll hurt a girl. A good LMT can communicate to adjust to your preference.

I've been an MT for 25 years. Actual stats in the industry for licensed therapists are about 75-80% females, 20-25% males. I will generally try to find an experienced female if I'm going for a relaxing session. Overall, I find the treatments by females are more fluid and relaxing. Extra points for therapists who know Strain and Relief, Stretching, AIS/PIS (Mattes' work), Pin and Stretch, etc. If I am really hurting, I will try to get to one of my teachers because he is SOOOOOO knowledgable about anatomy and kinesiology.

Just a PS here - if someone is really "into" getting massage, I would suggest that you interview several, and go for a massage with each of two or three. Stick with your favorite. As I (somewhat) alluded to in my first response, I have several therapists I know and will go to the one most proficient in the modality I need at any particular time, male or female.

i really don't care. in some ways male masseurs can be better. i'd be lying if i said that i didn't at times get some sort of "feeling" from female masseurs hands on me, and it's nice with a guy not to get that feeling at all and just relax. also a guy's hands can be stronger and perhaps do the trick better

i really don't care the sex as long as they are good at the job

If I am almost naked, would I rather have a girl's hands on me or a guy's hands? That is not really a question for me. I always prefer the touch of a woman, and a guy having his hands on my body just feels wrong. I even prefer a female physician for a physical exam, but my current primary doctor is a male because he is a physician who I really respect and trust.

I have had massages only thrice
The first time was by a male and if felt so awkward and I kinda hated it to he honest. I felt kinda gay to have done it. No offense

I was happy flaunting my body and to her and have her gentle hands work it's magic on me..
