Same sex high school gym class?

In my high school, we were sometimes mixed and sometimes separated. I think it worked wonderfully. I think it's good to sometimes mix genders in gym class, especially when it comes to team sports. In general, guys tend to have the advantage since they're faster and stronger. Only a handful of girls in my class were able to challenge the guys on an equal level, and that was usually either because of talent, or because they were practicing on a professional level.
So what usually ended up happening in the beginning of mixed competitions (during gym class, so not serious competitions), is that guys would dominate and have a hard time including the girls. But in any sort of team sport, team spirit is equally important. Soon enough the guys learned that even if the girls weren't as good as them, they were still valuable parts of the team. They learned how to include us, and realized that we were just as capable of scoring goals and passing the ball/puck/whatever perfectly to other teammates.
I think it was an important lesson in team spirit for everyone involved. That even if someone in the team isn't on the same level as the rest, they still deserve to have fun and be included, and still deserve a chance to show what they've got. Everyone might be pleasantly surprised.
I went to a mixed high school and I don't really care if the gym is mixed or not.
However, I remember in high school, there was certain sports that guys would never pass the ball to girls cause they thought we sucked or weren't interested in playing the game. That stuff is annoying in a mixed high school gym class.
@Tomblebee she used everyone else as shields.
a sign of weakness
mixed.
I don't see why not and I mean.. it's good prep for the real world. It would be no good to think you're educating children in a proper way yet, as soon as they graduate highschool and enter the 'real world', have no fucking clue how to interact with people of a gender other than their own.
It absolutely had to be at my high school.
Because it was an all guys high school.
But humor aside, the physical capabilities of the sexes are generally quite different. If a gal can compete with guys and wants to, then I am fine with it. But In most cases they cannot compete well, and do not want to. Gym classes are going to push the students to perform their best, often in highly competitive sports. And grades are often given on how they perform in that competition. One of my gym classes included wrestling, I went into that portion with a great grade, and the instructor had individuals challenge others to wresting. If the challenger won, they swapped grades. Imagine that with gals in the class.
Except for a few sports and only if the individuals wanted to do that I would say stick with same sex.
U know when we had mixed class the girls just stood there doing nothing and the guys played. We also had same sex for the advanced class u actually play really sport. In general the skill lvl is different and the willingness to participate is also different so i prefer same sex.
I just get annoyed how there are some girls who don't really do anything and make the rest of us look bad.
@Tomblebee Yeah
I'm very competitive and I like playing sports even if I'm not spectacular at them, like with dodgeball I can dogde and catch... throwing is a different story. Then you have those girls at the back, they either cower and get hit and stay in a group with their friends, or they scream when a ball comes rolling towards them. Smh

Ok if we continue finding ways to separate boys and girls then they will never learn to properly work together in the work place. School is meant to be preparation for our lives in the real world, and I'm pretty sure in the real world you will have to cooperate with a boy, or go to a board meeting with a girl. Besides its always more fun
even if the boys NEVER PASS THE BALL OMG
I don't see why. Gym class shouldn't be so intimate that we need to worry about separating the genders. I think it's important to teach boys and girls how to cooperate, respect each other, and feel comfortable working together. I don't think it's healthy to encourage males and females to feel isolated from each other.
Mixed for most of it unless they're is physical contact in a competition.
By physical contact I mean tackling, throwing balls as hard as possible to the face, etc. That's how gym classes are typically. Girls basketball, boys basketball, girls soccer, etc.
Honestly I used to be horrified by how hard the guys in my pe class could throw. When we played dodgeball and I made eye contact with a guy it's like my soul exploded and I just wanted to run out of class. Despite this I think mixed classes are alright..
The way it is for mine is that in grades 9 and 10 they’re split classes, as they are mandatory so there are a lot more students. After that it’s mixed because of the low rate of people picking the classes. I can see why the first 2 years would be split, but I wouldn’t be opposed to them being mixed either.
my high school had gym classes all stupidly with students
grade 9: genders are separated
grade 10: genders are mixed
grades 11 and 12: genders are separated and mixed
i personally prefer co - ed cuz gym class with a bunch of pansies and daisies is boring. i dreaded grade 9 gym class for this reason. i like competition when it comes to athletic things and my fellow male classmates were a good competition because of their muscular figure
Our gym class was same sex when we were doing sex ed but we mostly were mixed because the girls who wanted to play got just as competively vicious as the guys did
Lol Right they put us all together for Sex Ed and we couldn’t help but laughing when they showed the pictures of the dicks and vagina the teacher was pissed 😂😂
I had mixed in elementary-middle school and same sex in highschool. I didn't really mind either (although my highschool gym teacher was a real witch)
We had mixed classes unless it was something like rugby. Truthfully at that age it's uncomfortable but there's no reason not to do tennis or something like it as a mixed group.
My high school was mixed most of boys with obsessed with me but I hate high school I just want to leave. It was a learning disables school. didn’t help.
I'm cool with either way
I prefer competing against women, it's more fair.
In my highschool you had the option of mixed or all girl
The only time i had a same sex physical ed class was when i went to an all girls school. But I see absolutely nothing wrong with co ed sports
I didn’t mind mixed, but I played sports. I could see where non-athletic girls would actually exercise if guys weren’t watching. And perhaps vice versa?
I had mixed in middle school but then I didn’t take PE in high school
What's wrong with a mixed gym class? You get to know and experiment with what boys are like in physical education as well!
Mixed. I think high schoolers like me are for the most part more mature than people depict them. And the world isn't divided, so why should school be?
Want equality? Miced it is then, with the same standards.
What's next? Same color schools? I think we already tried that once, didn't work very well.
Well Men are physically stronger/more dominant/more agressive/more tough-skinned. Same sex gym class would create a testosterone bomb in that class room
Mixed
I love to establish dominance over the weaker female gender to let them know that men are superior
I don't think it matters. Maybe keep it mixed so people don't get pissed and sue.
