I have never contemplated it nor will I. I have been through things that others would die just watching. I have had a hard life but suicide isn't the answer. I also think you can provide all the numbers for some hotline in who the hell knows where, run by people who don't know you. The truth is if someone is hell bent that they are going to commit suicide they are going to do it. What you really need to survey is how many people who were suicidal where able to be saved by calling these holiness? I live in Virginia and this Summer we had two young twenty-somethings decide that they wanted to end it all. The first man went to a local shooting range and paid $25 to rent a pistol and blew his brains out on the range. Well the local news outlets picked up the story. Then a week later a young marine decided to go to the same range to blow his brains out. In my opinion these are selfish cowards. Why couldn't they run off to the woods and do it there. Nope, instead they decided to take their lives at someone's private business. It affects the mental health of everyone involved. It's not just that person who decided they couldn't handle life. Everyone is affected, the staff of the business, 911 operator, first responders and even customers who were on the range when it happened. This is why its very selfish.

That is not always true. Every suicidal person is different. Some are seriously contemplating and calling the hotline might just save their life. I know from personal experience. I was so tempting to do it but thought of my family and pet that depends on me. So I called the hotline. And they sent me to a hospital until I can no longer feel suicidal. And some people there have also called the hotline. Just because you don't know someone doesn't mean they can help you. There are plenty examples of this. They are trained mental health professionals who know more than you. My therapist was the one who gave me the hotline number and I kept it. And for those 2 men, if they ran away they most likely would've been caught. Not everyone can legally buy and own a gun to use outside of the range. Don't judge and call them selfish cowards. You never know how scary it is to die until you're about to die. They might have thought they were a burden to their family or something. You don't know the true motive. And if they thought they were a burden then how are they being selfish. People can be so hurt that it clouds their judgement and think that its worth it cause they won't be a burden. You may have been through things and not feel suicidal, but people are born different, have different chemicals in their brain and are more prone to depression. Have you taken psychology? Putting people down because they are suicidal and stigma is why people are scared to get help because they fear being judged. Calling the hotline is a step to getting help. Every suicide is different and that was only 2 examples out of many. Don't be so judgmental especially if you've never been suicidal. What if it was your family or friend

Popped a ton of pills in high school, didn’t die but my parents found out and I got the therapy I needed FINALLY

they didn’t believe I was truly hurting even after telling them many times, so I thought the only way they would listen is if I showed them, I don’t truly think I wanted to die though... I just wanted help

No, but I've considered it before, although I think most people have before at least once in their life. I just value life and it's opportunities to throw it away even if I'm suffering.

I did have a day where I were thinking about what would happen if I did it and how easily I could put myself in a position to attempt it, but I never tried it.

Thanks. I'm not in that mental state anymore, but in general, I have a hard time getting over bad experiences and it may not take a lot for me to enter a crappy mental phase, because what did follow that day was at least a month or so of being depressed.

Thank goodness that time in my life is several years behind me now, but yes, in the past. At least 3 serious attempts all in one year

I have been opposed to suicide for my entire life. So when I started contemplating it two years ago I went and started seeing a therapist.

The reasoning behind it sometimes isn't always selfish, but the act itself definitely can be. If you have loved ones around you I believe it's a selfish act.
