Have you ever known someone who committed suicide?

I know this is a depressing question, I apologize for that. I found out today that someone who went to the same school as me and took the bus with me, he committed suicide apparently. I didn't know him exceptionally well and he was older then me but he and his friend use to tease me on the bus. Plus, his dad banked at the same bank my mom was a teller at, so she knew this persons father. They are nice people. Even though I didn't really know him, it's still sad and been on my mind all day. I was around this person and exchanged words with this person when I was younger. So, it's all very tripy to me. This is the closest I've ever come to knowing someone who committed suicide. It's sad.

So, have you ever know someone who committed suicide? Either someone you were close to, someone you use to kind of know or someone you knew of?

Yes, a great aunt, a friend, and a colleague at work. I also know many more who made attempts but luckily were able to get help and for most of them, their suicidal ideation ceased once they saw a therapist, started medication, and accepted that they were sick and needed treatment. Things beforehand were different each time, but looking back, were all warning signs that something serious may happen.
The great aunt was suddenly sorting out her personal affairs, made a living will, wrote letters to her children, gave away some of her valued belongings, etc.
The friend was an honor student on the dean’s list, but her boyfriend that she thought she would marry one day cheated on her and that was a huge blow to her. She gained a large amount of weight fairly quickly and started to struggle to keep up in class after the breakup. She looked like she was starting to make personal strides, (working out, got a tutor/offers for extra credit) but began to display more and more negative thoughts, cynical jokes, lost interest in school and isolated herself from friends.
The colleague at work was outed as being gay and had been ostracized by the people who worked closest to him. After a long period of keeping to himself and being sullen, the last I saw him he was actually at his happiest. He was lively and came over to crack some jokes and say how he was looking forward to the big game.
If any of these cases sound similar to what you or your loved ones are going through now, please get them the help that they need. I didn’t know then what I know now, and since hindsight is 20/20 it should have been signs that they were not only thinking about suicide but making plans for how to do so. I hope anyone out there struggling or knowing someone who is seek help.

Yes, a past good friend of mine sister committed suicide when she was in 8th grade because of bullying. It was kind of traumatic because my friend and I were in high school when it had happened. It was really weird for me because she committed suicide the day I met her. Everything seemed fine on the morning of that day, we were laughing & then my friend & I went to school, and left the little sister alone with some older relatives in their house. I found out about the incident on that night on a TV news channel then while in shock texted my friend at that time and asked if it was true and she said yes.

I've known 2 people that have committed suicide one in middle school she was being abused by her father. the rest of her family & the schools counsoler failed her, I didn't know her well but I was one of the few people she talked to if at all.

the other was a girl I had known since elementary school we were so tight & she was a great person but in high school she became addicted to pills she went to rehab but then relapsed when she was having a bad day & she O. D on a bottle of anti depressants our junior year we had to graduate without her.
The way she would laugh & joke with you wouldn't guess she had a care in the world she had demons but she was a good person

No one who I knew well, but I have known of a few people over the years who have committed suicide. A lady who was well known by a couple of friends of mine, suffered from severe depression and just couldn't go on with it any longer. She left behind a husband and I think two sons in their 20's. Then a guy who was a friend of mine's former business partner committed suicide a few years back and the reason was somewhat unknown but I'd seem him off and on years ago and I got the impression he was bipolar. He was married and had I think 2 kids. There have been others who I've heard of but were not that well known to me.

Now that I think about it, a friend of mine's dad committed suicide when I was about 13. I remember seeing a fire engine turning down their street and I wondered what had happened. The next day I heard that his dad hung himself in their garage. I was always curious as to what would lead a person to that. Strange that I do recall that friend telling me that his dad's dad had committed suicide by jumping in a well in Tennessee when he was a kid. And then he asked his dad to "confirm" it with me. His dad said that indeed, it did happen. Then probably 2 years later he did.

Yes, a friend of mine from elementary school hung herself when I was in 7th grade.
Less directly, a friend of a friend’s boyfriend hung himself when I was in college.

Yup, but tbh it actaully makes me happy in a way. Now before you think wtf just hear me out, i am gonna keep this short tho.

So the girl who i knew did do it, she has been raped, hurt and beaten nearly to death.
She was never happy nothing made her happy, we talked for a bit and honestly after all she said i understood.

So when she said she wanted to die, i said "it's up to you your life but i'll be here until you do". She didn't want help she never cut herself to show she wants help or don't want to die.

She wanted to die, there was legit nothing else she wanted she didn't care about if the future could be happy. She just wanted to.

So i let her, and she died while having a nice sweat smile. It was clear that she didn't regret killing herself and that was the first time i think i ever saw her smile.

So in the end i am happy cause in the end that was the thing that made her happy. She wasn't like most people who show regret at there last moments of suicide.
She wasn't like most people who want help and she wasn't kill herself cause she was upset.

She did it cause it would make happy not like other people reasons which is just cause there upset or tired or just don't want to live.

And in the future i will probably do the same thing. I've always wanted my life to last forever but since that won't happen there are only two things i want and 1 of them is death.

I didn't know him very well but I was the last person to see him at work before he killed himself. It was at my old work. This guy was suffering from severe depression and had just spilt from his wife. He was always very quiet and loved to read. Unfortunately my work weren't very sentive to his needs and would constantly shout and discipline him in front of everyone else whilst working which must have been very humiliating and he was trying his best.

He seemed in high spirits before he left work and I said bye to to him as we were walking out of work. The next couple days, he didn't show up, all the managers were calling him lazy and stuff thinking he'd just decided not to turn up. A week goes by a my work started to try and get in contact with him, he was picking up, so they hang his brother and had to go to his flat and find his 2 week old dead body in his flat. It was horrible to think about how much loneliness and sadness he must have felt and no one cared to take the time out for him just to pop in and check on him.

Yes a really close friend. Her "boyfriend" basically forced her to have an abortion then broke up with her after getting what he wanted her to do. Even a year later she couldn't come to terms with it, she would call us crying about how she killed her baby. One night she called to let us know she'd swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills with a bottle of wine. We were clear across the state, we called her mom to get her help, it was too late.

The worst part was her mom was pissed at us for not letting her know her daughter had an abortion and was so depressed, she yelled at my husband and I at the funeral. It really hurt to know her mother was so busy doing her own things to notice her daughter was so troubled. We'll probably never get over the hurt of this one.

I am fortunate most of my friends and those I know - as far as I am aware - nobody I know has ever committed suicide but I've had a lot of friends attempt it or think about it. My best friend in high school was suicidal many times cause in high school but her brother stopped her from killing herself whenever she tried. My best friend now was also suicidal for a while too but every time she thought about it somebody would talk her out of it. Usually her boyfriend. I didn't find out until I had known her for at least 4-7 months that she was having these thoughts.

In 2014 I was much more egoistic than I am now and I started talking to this guy I secretly fancied, but as ego was stronger we didn't talk much... once or twice on facebook back when I was still using it..
Well I left that school, developed into another Person and and started to be very caring... well 3 years later (2017) I played some game with my old friends and they told me the news of our old school... well they also told me that on my stepbrothers birthday, this guy i knew drove to a train station I often visit, jumped infront of a moving train and killed himself. I never heard of it. I never knew. My new purpose was to prevent people from doing that and then.. someone "in my own ranks" ... this left me speechless, I cried a bit but... i rarely knew him and it feels weird crying about someone you merely knew...

Yep. It was a while a back and we were close so after I found out I kinda shutdown. My girlfriend at the time broke up with me and I started drinking heavily. Luckily I had some good friends around me who helped me through it and I'm in a far better place now then I would've been if it weren't for them.

Yes, my philosophy teacher from high school. I don't know the reasons, she was funny and passionate on her job but one summer she killed herself. Maybe she was suffering from depression, it was really shocking for me and my classmates, we all loved her

Yeah, one of my best friends since childhood. He was always fucked up in the head since we had the same home situation (abuse and hurtful words). I always knew he was unstable but I didn't know that he would take his own life, it was the day after he told me he'd always love me like the brother he never had. I should've known something was wrong, but I'm too fucking stupid

I was in the same class as a guy called Jacob who killed himself not long after leaving school. He never left a note and no indications on his phone or laptop as to why he did it or any posts related to wanting to commit suicide.

And someone I went to school with Dad committed suicide and not long after got raped by her sisters friend.

Oh and I had an Uncle who committed suicide whilst my Mum was pregnant with me and another Uncle who committed suicide in 2009.
He was an alcoholic with a cheating wife and she left him with his two kids for another man. I was told she took the kids to her new partners family do and he was hidden behind the fence listening to his ex and kids having fun. Drunk himself stupid and hung himself in a nearby tree, where 2 young boys found him the following morning.

Things haven't been the same after. it. it's a mixture of emotions that hard to deal with eather i am sad or angry to the point where i always have a question Mark on my head to why he would go. that Route. Life hasn't really been the same for me , my world changed

I know a few have committed suicide but not while we were actively friends. They were years after I graduated from high school and we lost track of each other. I just wondered what happened to them and why they chose that road. I wonder if I could have made more of a difference in their life if we had kept current. But we all take our own paths and they aren't always the right ones for us. All you can do is move on and pray that there will be no more, especially someone who is close.

I'm not sure. I was friends with a girl online for a while, and I helped and talked her through a lot of her problems, and she told me she was suicidal and I talked her out of doing anything multiple times. A week goes by, everything is fine and she seems to be in brighter spirits that week, then says she is feeling down, logs off our chat and never logged back on. I know it's online so maybe it doesn't count here, but it bugs me to this day and I hope she's okay.

Only one. I never met him or got to talk to him. But he lived in the same small town as I did. Everyone knew everyone so obviously I knew of him. Then he committed suicide 4 years ago. I was living somewhere else at the time. But I’m really close to his mom. She’s a really kind and sweet woman. She’s like a grandma too me... But yeah, I never met him but I knew of him.

Yes I used to work with teenagers, I was a Careers Adviser & a young lad I used to regularly help with looking for a job killed himself 2 years ago. I found out from his brother who contacted me. It was very sad to hear.
