Our mind is a very powerful thing sometimes when people go through things they keep it locked in their subconscious and when they do that it stays there and you just think about it it goes around and around and around and around and around and around and it never stops. Like they say it's not the trauma that you go through but how you bounce back can you let it go why don't you let it go a lot of people need to be in that frame of mind that's what gives them life. If you think about it if you put your fingers like the okay sign like you're telling somebody okay that little circle right there is what people live in when they allow things to keep eating at them and bothering them now spread your hands out wide as far as you can it's a big world out there there's no reason to live in that little world you want to experience and explore and do as much and learn as much as possible but when you lock yourself up in that little world it will eat away at you it will change you mentally yes it'll change everything about you if you have ever talked to any homeless people. The ones on the street corner trying to get a dollar from you so they can go buy alcohol they're stuck in that little world and the more they drink and just keep going in that little circle that little circle gets smaller and smaller you have to break yourself free and live in that big world whatever it is that you're challenged with accept it and move on there's no reason to keep yourself back there anymore you have to let it all go things change in life you have to change with them every single day otherwise you're going to get stuck in that little circle world I've been stuck in your own head
It's almost like taking a test and you come to a question and you can't answer you don't know the answer but you stay right there on that question you don't move on how many years have to go by until you finally say I don't know the answer I don't really care I'm going to the next question we hold ourselves back by doing this
I could write a book on this, it’s really impossible to gauge because how to measure something like this is confounded the brightest medical mines out there. I know myself personally, I’ve been through quite a bit of things that fall into the five categories of worst grief a person can suffer (I think they are, loss of a loved one, divorce, moving, loss of a job, and last is having a significant health injury). For goodness sake‘s depending on how you would interpret the word “loss“ I would’ve been five for five in a 10 month span! To be completely honest with you, that kind of thing is something you just never completely come back from. Completely. There’s some things that change you in a way that you really will never totally recover from. Sadly, from what happened at my last relationship which was a marriage it ended in a way that I don’t think I’ll truly be able to have a relationship without trust issues again. And that’s sad. To be that person Mestic and cynical. The trauma will do that to you. That’s why therapy and self-care are not just good they are vital. Not isolating is also important. Getting under the care of the right doctor in case medication is needed is also super important. Good luck
My grandmother died when I was 15. She loved me unconditionally. I was suicidal, because she raised me and cared for me.
I was abused and emotionally neglected by my narcissistic mother for 21 years.
My friends were fake and only entered my life to USE ME, exploit me, envy me, sabotage me and betray me.
I have only 2 close friends but we're busy with life so I can't call them when I feel lonely or simply need love.
My exes lied to me, manipulated me and fooled me to believe in their 'true love'. Then they hurt me and showed their true colors later.
Other jealous people tried to exclude me and put me down, so it only adds salt to injury.
So how's my mentality affected?
I am the same person but have less sympathy for certain types of people. For some I wish they die terribly ASAP and go to hell. Sometimes I wish that this world should end because good people are like only 12%.
But I'm always waiting for my real inner circle and family. I have become very rational and observant in who I choose now.
I've had a shit life, terrible childhood of being battered off my dad and molested by an older man. Was also abused by my kids father. Then i dared fall in love and he fucked me over too.. Its left me wary of me, i suffer terrible depression, i have good days but mostly bad days, i just dont understand why i was treated so poorly, i often wonder if my own father treated me better it would habe saved me and id have been happier. I try to see the good in things and think someone has it harder than me. I through myself into work and treat people how i was never shown. Im also sensitive and can cry a lot. But i do know my early years growing up was the stumbling block to a happy life for my adult years

It depends on the kind of trauma, how they process it, and their resilience.
I know a woman from Nairobi who was raped there, and she was always hyper-vigilant, anxious, and paranoid. In retrospect, it sounded like she had unresolved PTSD.
Another example: I've had so much trauma that I know I don't get PTSD.
I was verbally-abused by my father my entire childhood.
Had a lot of social problems growing-up and some mild sexual things happened to me without consent (touched by girls and girls exposing themselves to me).
I was in many large earthquakes from about ages 7 to 18.
I've been mugged and shot at. Threatened countless times by idiots.
I dealt with the ups and downs of business ownership/partnerships.
When my grandma had a quintuple bypass, coded 3x but survived, everyone was acting like they were gobsmacked. I didn't fall apart and her incident didn't register as emotional devastation.
Recently, I went through a forest fire evacuation through the fire itself that leveled most of the town. It wasn't a big deal to me at the time or afterwards, but it was to everyone else.
It depends on the person. Some become stronger, others break under the strain.
I'd like to think I got stronger.
Here's the highlights:
Favourite aunt killed in a fire
Brother killed in a road accident aged 9 (I was 12)
Father diagnosed with skin cancer
Mother has precancerous cells requiring hysterectomy
Close friend killed in mountain road crash
Mother's parents both die of cancer
Father's parents both die from ruptured aortas
Having beaten skin cancer, father died of brain cancer
Numerous suicide attempts
All before I hit 30
After 30 things got tough.
I've not considered suicide in 22 years. That doesn't mean that it got easier - I got stronger in my Faith and I refuse to consider ending my life myself.
Last year I caught covid while in hospital for something else
Following a 3 month coma, technically I died - ICU team fought for 4 hours to restart my heart & get me breathing again.
Lost over 70lbs in the 3 month coma. Too weak to sit up without assistance.
3 weeks after regaining consciousness, just starting to be able to walk again infection in the bones of my foot required amputation
BUT...
After the amputation in October I was walking by the time I was discharged before Christmas - not far, but walking nonetheless.
In the recovery unit anyone asking for directions to me was told "just follow the sound of laughter"
Bear in mind I skipped 20 years that had their share of trauma.
I'm probably the toughest SOB you'll meet - and I'll make you laugh too.
It greatly depends on the individual, however even the strongest have little things that can pretty much destroy them mentally.
there are a huge number of things that can impact our mental health.
someone could witness horrific physical trauma to someone else or even themselves, but have zero emotional impact.
then they can have say a near accident in an aircraft, car etc which can dramatically impact their mental health.
I suffer from depression and PTSD from various shit that I’ve been though, I have dark periods but I’m fine, for some this might have been too much to handle.
It can effect it a person in many many ways. It depends on the person and it depends on what the trauma was. Mess with their sleep patterns, depression, various kinds of fear. Can cause a person to withdraw from relationships. Feelings of guilt, anger, frustration, helplessness, hopelessness. Suicidal thoughts. People can turn to alcohol or drugs to try to help. All or any of the above can happen.
People who have been through a serious trauma should seek professional help. Even really strong, resilient people who are trained to deal with trauma can need help. Humans are not robots. Things impact is.
Well, was bullied and happen to be very defensive when I see that someone is trying to humiliate me, laughs at me or etc. I immediately label this/these people as my enemy for the next time, often even without knowing them close.
Another manifestation of a trauma is, that I‘ve been often manipulted by my family and other people, so I react angry or also defensiv when someone tells me his opinion to something negative that I did. I see it as a way to throwing stones at my way and preventing me to be the best version of myself that‘s why I‘ve always been the difficult party in all my friendships.
Trauma heavily influences ones mentality & mental wellbeing in general — especially when the trauma is rooted in one’s childhood.
This is why many organizations such as The National Child Traumatic Stress Network exists to help people who struggle from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) caused by traumatic events in the past. Please check our nctsn. org / what - is - child - trauma
sorry I would paste the link but this is a new account and I need to be +3 xper to post lol
that’s a very Vague question it depends on the Trauma the age and the persons mindset. usually if women were sexually abused by a trusted adult they tend to grow up and express that sexually as a kink, sometimes bad sometimes great, also they tend to separate their sex from their emotions and are more promiscuous not because they love sex but trying to fulfill a empty feeling that is only filled with sexual attention. but for some it doesn’t impact them much so it depends 🤷🏾♂️ but i’m not a Therapist lol so what do i know 🤷🏾♂️😂😂
Entirely dependent on said trauma and how they chose to deal with it. Perfect quote from a show Burn Notice that said this well. The mother was asking the former employer about her two sons who grew up with their abusive father.
She asked why the younger brother was so damaged and how the older brother Michael turned out okay. The former employer said,
"Two bottles are on a table. The bottles fall on the floor. One breaks into a jagged weapon used for war. The other bottle shatters. You see both bottles are broken. But it's how they break that matters"
This is true in all of life. You can have the exact same situation as another. While you'll have some similarities. You break different
It can cause depression, anxiety, avoidance/isolation. Unstable emotions, low self esteem, anger issues, self hate, PTSD, dissociation and so much more. It all depends on what happened to the person and what the person did to mentally try to overcome what was happening to them at the time. It definitely will affect them in someway mentally even if they are mentally strong enough to get through it.
It depends on the amount and severity of the trauma as well as the person. For example my sister was raped and I was tortured (literally, not just teased or bullied). We both suffered trauma. We both have mental scars from it and react to certain stimuli that wouldn't elicit a reaction in most people and it's different stimuli. I now find it almost impossible to form a deep friendship of any kind. All of my friends have gone months without a text from me. The only person outside of my parents I talk to more than once a month (tops) is my girlfriend.
Unless they're mentally strong enough to accept what has happened and understand that only they can determine they're future or if they're serious about healing while in therapy, then there's not much damage that would be left.
Now if they're the opposite, they'll always be on guard, suspicious of everyone, do drugs or alcohol to cope with the mental strain, make poor decisions with people, or become promiscuous. All of which are not good
If a person goes through a Substantial amount of trauma within their life, depending on the magnitude of the trauma they could face PTSD or CPTSD, Depression, Anxiety, hopelessness, loneliness.
If you or anybody is going through it, feel free to message me.
Did you know that trauma and abuse not only have negative affects on your psyche but can also effect you genetic code? Trauma can actually passed down through generations.
The idea is that trauma can leave a chemical mark on a person’s genes, which then is passed down to subsequent generations. Instead it alters the mechanism by which the gene is converted into functioning proteins, or expressed.
It can have a huge amount of trauma on their brain, I blame all the trauma that I went through from bullying in school, to parents who verbally abused me during my years of age 8 and older I've been on disability income for mental illness since age 21
huge... it distorts their view of life and those negative emotions project onto everything else until the underlying wounds are addressed so that positive emotions can then eminate from that person.
It's basically emotional programming... bad ones. lots of stories of people healing, not easy though to dig through all of it, had my own.
It's about peer pressure the more you keep pushing something the more it keeps moving away from you when it comes back it might not even be interested in anything about you. Try keep a clean track on life your mentality is the most important part of life no brain no life
Usually none. Its the dipshits around them that constantly remind them, who cause the trauma.
Hence why it's important to filter your friends, family and support network accordingly. Don't deal with shit you can't because "it's family" or "we're school buds!" as when you tumble you can bet your ass it's going to be you and not them standing in front of that judge.
I don't know how much info you want on this, but The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk is all about how trauma changes not only how you think, but the chemistry of your brain and the function of your body. It's a very interesting read. And I'm not a psychologist and I understood it perfectly fine
They put Jesus on a cross and that man didn't break & died unbroken. They burned down MLK's house said he cheated on his wife, arrested the man and etc , same as Malcolm X and they ain't shut up, a lot of people were thrown in Prison for life and recently are getting out for something they did not do.
Overall a persons mentality is what life shapes them as but it is your control as a human to control your destiny. You can't let your mind beat you a lot of people have became successful using their trauma to get them to the top.
PTSD, Survivor's guilt... self destructive behavior, unstable emotion... loss of emotion.

Multiple personality disorders where your mind will split & create an alter ego that is stronger emotionall & will develop to take place of your everyday personality to protect you. This is what they do to many actors & singers. Ever notice how Beyonce suddenly transforms when her song comes on when she's on stage?
People Holding onto trauma is how it affects their mentality. I don’t know what you mean by “substantial,” but living in this world people will always encounter some type of trauma. That is why it is so important for people to Learn from the trauma and Let the trauma Go!
Neuroscience student here PTSD, age regression, BPD etc. Trauma can literally silence and destroy.
My father abused me for around 10 years and my mother would go get so high she didn't remember anyone's name. I have grown to completely hate cigarettes, Marijuana, and illegal drugs due to that. When I have issued I bottle them up because it seems like no one listens to me. I honestly am just afraid of people in general and have extremely bad social anxiety. And I don't trust women at all. Never have because of how it went. I think it's the reason I find dating so difficult.
What do you mean by mentality?
I know it as a geographical concept, i. e. people of a certain area/town/region share certain beliefs (maybe because they are supposed to be helping each other so they experience the same type of trauma like floods in Germany recently).
If you go through trauma alone, it typically makes you more weary, tires you for a while, and makes you more careful, or possibly anxious, about similar events happening in the future
For me it made me angry, impatient, easily annoyed. I dislike just about everything, i used to hate everything. I still get annoyed but not like I used to. Anger issues are still here but their much better than before. I used to be introverted, still am but not nearly as much. It impacts everything honestly. I just feel like shit have the time.
Well depends on the person and the trauma. Mental disorders, anxiety, their ability to do things in the world etc
This is really a question for a medical
professional, not a social website. I highly suggest the person seek out help and not go it alone.
There are a lot of people on here who take uneducated feedback seriously. They read comments too.
Codependency, low self esteem, self destructive behaviors, self pitty, trust issues, worthlessness, over whelmed and all kind of physical and emotional problems. It's difficult to point at one specific cause we would not know for sure wich one the person would get into. But their is some red flags that we can pay attention. The topic is broad and deep. We can talk for hours and days about it.
Usually their anxiety levels go up. This can encompass the overwhelming majority of them
Speaking from personal experience, large gaps in memory, hard times paying attention, and a lot of sleepless noghts for a bit. Early stages of dealing with it are the hardest because just like any trauma or injury you need time to heal. It gets easier if you take care of yourself and work to better your person.
It can effect them in a lot of ways but it depends on the person
I had to they locked me out of my old one
Hudge affect if you dont deal with the problem that cause a major event it will just happen again an thats all they are going to see when an if you give up an and or give in to or hold on to something thats allready happened or taking something from you... just have to try an relate an find a common ground to be able to compare things to
Personally for myself, depression, anxiety, I'm very jumpy, overeating...
They will panic disorders maybe & always have anxiety and not be able to cope with life, it will affect many areas in their life e. g. sexual
I, for one, am dead inside 🙋♀️
Even though I effortlessly bring light into other people's lives.
They can become desensitized, that’s actually how most serial killers are created.
Post traumatic stress disorder to name the obvious, but there is a whole slew of other things from shock to being catatonic or worse that might develop.
It shapes your fears and how you chose to avoid them in the future
The potential for a nervous breakdown is highly likely if not addressed early enough. Furthermore, physically all sorts of ailments can manifest themselves.
Me and lots of meaningless sex
Oh, sorry to hear that. What kind of trauma caused that?
@SilverRain92 my mom’s bfs molested me and she didn’t care and passed out most of the time while they did it
Damn, that's so terrible 😨☹️
Did you try to get a psychological counseling? I guess that having meaningless sex bothers you. Or it's not a problem?
You unfortunately feel incredibly dead and super lonely, it isn't a great feeling. 😓😔
Whatever doesn't break you will only make you stronger.
Everything won’t make sense anymore…
Stress , depression, panic attack anxiety i am dealing all of it
all kinds of different problems can manifest depending on your age and what happened
Substantial effect. What type of trauma? From whom?
It can really fuck you up
Depression of course. Surely you must have heard of it.
They become less patient with bullshit.
@Coulis Maybe. If they have low self-esteem.
Depends on the individual
Nothing that can't be fixed, they just have to want to fix it and get help.
It’s not that simple and from experience even with treatment it still is hard to be fixed
Trust issues anxiety depression are the common.
Depression, simple as that.
Fucking everything. The old you is dead.
It varies one person to the next.
Paranoia, cynicism, depression, trust issues.
It can play many games in your head
Any affext
