Have you ever been called a perfectionist?

I have. And I don't think they meant it in a good way. They said it was debilitating. Except I don't see what is wrong with me. I need an outsider's perspective on this.

Both genders are welcome to answer. I am looking for reasons and strategies to cope with this situation if it happens again.

They didn't mean it as a compliment, they were indicating I had a mental disorder. Google it, I didn't even know until they mentioned it to me.

Yes. I spent much of my life being a perfectionist. Not in everything, but in things that require effort and skill. And I was damn god at it, too. However, being a perfectionist often means depression, because it's hard to be a perfectionist and no one is perfect (although at times, it seems like a few rich people are). So to regain some sanity, I stopped being a perfectionist. I'm more of a somewhat-perfectionist now. I only accept 85% of higher in goals and performances I set out to accomplish. Like making sure I usually type at least 100 words on these GAG questions. (Made it at 109.)

I guess that are many advantages of being a perfectionist. It means whatever we do is quality and shows we care :)

Yes, but it also means we're rarely satisfied with things. I'd still rather be a perfectionist than objectively worthless mediocre trash, though. I'll never understand people doing things or living lives that are easily replaceable and valueless. It's like, you might as well not exist at all, if your existence is going to be meaningless by your own intentions.

I am a perfectionist too, and while it can be debilitating in some ways if you allow it to be, it can also be a positive if you control it and channel it. Just be aware of it and dont allow it to control you.

I try not to make it obvious but it has in my workplace so how. It's very embarrassing when my manager said it was debilitating in front of all my coworkers as if it was some crippling mental issue, which it's not.
What are some way I can control/channel it?

YES! I've been a perfectionist since I was a teen. I get frustrated when things don't go perfectly the way I want them to be. During college, I would work so hard to get A's on assignments and exams. If I did not get an A, I would be very upset and moody. Being a perfectionist is a weakness of mine and sometimes its beneficial.
