Do you find that doctors sometimes make you feel stupid?

So I have noticed something in the past few years with a few doctors and specialists here and there, sometimes (for me at least) they make you feel like your stupid? Like if you ask too many questions your suddenly ‘overly stressed’ or ‘paranoid’ or if you can’t find a solution to a health problem, and you are trying to figure it out, and you suggest something serious like cancer for example (even though you know it’s probably not that but you are just trying to explore all possibilities) they start talking to you like your crazy for even thinking that? And they tell you to stop googling, but jeez I’m just trying to figure out the problem!

My uncle is also a psychiatrist, and he does it the most. Even if you are worried about the tiniest thing (like I thought my stove had a small gas leak once because it smelt funny) he immediately calls me crazy, paranoid, anxious etc... like what the hell? He thinks because he has a medical degree that everyone else is a dumb nut job... and he doesn’t just do it to me, he does it to everyone that has a light concerns out anything.

Have you ever noticed or experienced this? Do Some docs make you feel embarrassed because you asked a question they find dumb? Do they think just because they have a medical degree, they are sooo smart and everyone else is just dumb?

Spot on. Medical bullies, some of them.
Doctors are educated.
That doesn't mean they're right.
They're SO smart they also can become SO arrogant and start looking at other people like they're a new test subject.
I was a medic in the military for many years.
Medicine has it's own language. Just like construction and car mechanics and economics.
If an expert in a field starts talking about internal systems and you KNOW the language then they're more likely to give you straight answers.
If you're totally ignorant about what they're saying then they know they can feed you a line of bullshit and you won't know the difference.
Here's where experimental medication and treatment regimens creep in.
I've seen it happen to other family members, sometimes I'd let a doctor go on about their opinion about a diagnosis and then reveal enough of my own knowledge and watch the Expression on his face when he realizes I busted him for His bullshit.
There's a reason why "get a second opinion" is a common phrase in medicine. Because one doctor COULD be wrong. Two competing doctors is less likely to be wrong.
But healthcare and insurance restrictions are making it more difficult to be able to get a second opinion.
Continue to educate yourself on your own body.
Younger kids, anyone really, if when you're picking classes in college and you have an opportunity to take an elective, just an Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) class or an EMT class could be of enormous help.
Just driving with my kids in the car I've reviewed A&P of the digestive and circulatory and respiratory and excretory systems. Just summaries and short enough to make it something they can understand and remember... and bit by bit over time they can remember a good bit.
I don't trust doctors for shyt.
I use the medical system to get me the treatment I need for my family and myself. Once they know I'm educated enough to call bullshyt then I get what I need.
Not everyone can do that and we now see a whole nation being manipulated and forced to do things we don't want or need because we're so ignorant of our own bodies.

No, because I am well-versed in the sciences including knowing anatomy and biology well-enough to have a conversation with them using many of the medical terms they would use with each other.

My doctors have commented to me about it. My eye doctor recently said to me that I "know more about the eye than any patient that I've ever had."

They've all been pretty good and I believe that they appreciate my knowledge but also my admission of my own ignorance too.

That said, I suspect it can be difficult to talk to a completely lay patient about the patient's issues. Some doctors are good explainers and others just aren't. In a way, they are like teachers and, like teachers, some are good and some are not so good.

Every Doctor needs a sign on the wall of his office that says. " Please Don't confuse your Google Search with my [Medical Degree🔍]"

You have plenty of motivation to learn a Medical degree & become a Better Doctor with a more empathetic bedside Manner. Gather knowledge to the point that replaces your Insecurities. GL

I understand that doctors may get frustrated with patients googling things, but they should also understand that we are just trying to fix our problems and they shouldn’t make us feel stupid about doing so... they should be a little kinder. sometimes Google is only used by patients after a bad doctors appointment where the problem is still unresolved :)

Worry not AI will replace Doctors sooner than one would believe. All clinicians should treat their patients with Kindness and Understanding. America is unfortunately in the darkest period of American healthcare. Best Wishes

How do you dress when you see a doctor? Doctor's generally treat you as more capable if you dress in professional attire. Also take a notepad with you. So, you can have questions ready and the ability to write down answers.

As for myself. I haven't had issues. I'm well versed in the sciences, human anatomy and functions of the human body. So, they'll discuss conditions in better detail with me. I'll also stick them with good questions and my plans for after care treatment at home.
