Are pap smears painful?

In order to understand you need to know what a pap smear entails. The speculum placement is uncomfortable and you will usually feel some cramping. Also when the doctor goes to remove cells from your cervix you will feel them lightly scraping your cervix. The truth is you are spread eagle less than 5 minutes if done right. They know you are in a compromising position and they try to mitigate that vulnerability.

they can be uncomfortable, simply tell your health provider who is doing it if it starts to hurt or you'd like to stop.
