Is the LASIK eye surgery safe for the most part?

I have myopia. My power is not much, its pretty mild. I was wondering if i could get the surgery done at 19, so that i could stop wearing glasses. I wanted to know if its a good idea. I do know that there are risks for every surgery, but do complications arise often?

As long as there is stability in your eye sight results you shouldn't worry about side effects, and as for physical pain during and after the operation I assure you it's absolutely nothing, I had mine in February 2019

I apologize, but could you please elaborate on what you mean by stability in eye sight results?

You should check if your eye sight results haven't changed from last year (you should be doing this annually), if it's not stable then there is an increased chance of side effects, also recommend that you are at least 18, you've probably read all that

I got it done last year, the first couple weeks are annoying but overall it's the way to go

Think of it this way, if I got it done and it went okay I wouldn't think about going on the internet and posting. So there is a heavy bias when it comes to medical procedures and their results on the internet.
My few things were just eyes watering more than usual and a light headache for a few days

First, they’ve been doing this since the 90s. It’s not new like another poster suggested.

I had the PRK version done a few years ago and it’s some of the best money spent. It was roughly $4000 and corrected me to 20x20. It was way worth it for me because I was a prescription strength away from legally blind (near sighted).

LASIK from my understanding is pretty painless. My brother had it, took his drops, and we actually went out to dinner that same night. Basically, they cut a small flap in the top layer of your cornea, sculpt the second layer to a perfect sphere with the laser, and place the flap back down. Your eye’s natural lubricant seals the flap down and heals very quickly. Pain is minimal.

My surgery was more complex because my corneas were much thinner. In the PRK version, they use a brush to remove the entire first layer of your cornea, which will regenerate. After it’s removed, they sculpt the bottom layer similar to lasik, which doesn’t regenerate. It was painful for 4-5 days after as your eyes heal, simply because you’re missing the top layer of your eye and the dryness is killer. Still worth it.

As always, there are risks to every medical procedure. Personally, with you being under 18, and with your visual disability only being mild, I wouldn’t do this. Your vision will continue to change throughout your 20s, and the surgery isn’t permanent. Most surgeons tell you you’ll need reading glasses within 10-15 years. I didn’t get it until I was 25 (I’m 27 now).

I did it over 10 years ago. And I had Astigmatism in 1 eye. It was real fast, when they did it. And back then my father wanted to do it, but he was near sighted and far sighted. They couldn't do it. But I believe today they can. For you it shouldn't be a problem. Have you talked about it with your Optometrists.
