Talk to a parent or friend about it, make sure you get enough exercise, try to get outdoors and see some nature. Prioritize and, if you can, drop those things that aren’t adding much value to your life.

See someone that deals with these kinds of challenges and talk to them about what you feel is overwhelming your life at this point.
This is not an easy thing to handle on your own, and you may need help from a professional or even someone close to you that you can talk to.
I go to the beach, and walk and walk and look at the surf crash into the rocks, and see how really insignificant my problems are compared to what I see in everyday life.
I wish we could talk, Flower, and perhaps I could be supportive to you in some way that I cannot here.
Bless you, you are a sweet person, and I wish I could help unburden you some.

+1 yWe must make life choices. Since you made a choice to be far from mom and it was only the two of you... then it will be a need for you to feel okay to let her/her cat be.
If you feel this is not what you want, its a choice to make/secrifice to go to her.
We can take stress and let it consume us... or we can solve the problem it and allow to move on from the stress...
Take a deep breath... close your eyes and flip a coin... :P
In all seriouslness... go take care of your mom... You are her only... I am all for family. xoxo11 Reply- +1 y
Wow that was sounding very cold for a minute lol. But by the end, your post made me smile, which I really needed. 😊
But yes, going there to help isn’t optional. It’s just that there’s a lot of stress surrounding making the trip there. And worrying what will happen with my mom. I don’t know if her complications from COVID will be permanent or not.
Its so common and at some point most of us will go through it. That's why its good to talk to others about what you're going through. It could be some counselling, or a friend or a random person on the internet with a good ear. Sometimes its good to talk to someone you don't have a connection with, you can be far nore real without fear of a freind or family member judging you.
It is true what they say, a problem aired is a problem shared.

+1 ytake a deeep breath, focus on the positives… it sounds cliche but trust me, just think of all the things you genuinely like and enjoy and do something you like as well… drawing usually works well for me or taking a walk, or listening to music and daydreaming lol
once you feel calmer, start to slowly reason with your thoughts, the things that make you feel overwhelmed and try to make sense out of it and also, try to find solutions and explanations for it… that usually helps me not focus on the bad parts only and it also shows you that this feeling will pass with time…20 Reply
+1 yI’ve been there too sweetie. I had to take an entire month off from work because I was extremely depressed and in need of medical help because of it. I couldn’t even focus or do my job I felt so bad. Now I’m taking adderall to treat my moods and focus. I highly recommend talking to a doctor if this is also your case. Stand up for yourself.
But I found I was in such a dark place and I felt like I’d never get out. I badly wanted a new job. I finally got one in November! And it showed me how much life can change and that nothing is a linear process. Trust that life works for you, not to you. Seriously. Don’t ever lose hope.
but I guess to your point, if you’re overwhelmed, create a schedule and list of everything and organize when you’ll do it, block off the time. One thing at a time.
What are you currently overwhelmed with?13 Reply- +1 y
The main problem is that my mom has COVID and is in the hospital getting oxygen.
And her doctors say that even after she’s discharged, she won’t be able to go back home. She now has altered mental status and also is now having problems walking and can’t get around on her own.
So after her COVID infection ends, she’ll have to be sent to a long-term care facility for I’m not sure how long. - +1 y
OMG. That is horrible. I’m extremely sorry you’re going through this. Sending you a virtual hug 🫂
+1 yI would say it must depend on the reason why and how severe.
But often taking a break and taking a step back can help.
If you have, then grab your support system, maybe talk to a professional. (depending on reason why and severity).
What is it that seems overwhelming?15 Reply- +1 y
-My mom is in the hospital with COVID, getting oxygen.
-The doctors say her mental status has been altered, along with her ability to get around. So even after she’s discharged from the hospital, she won’t be able to go home. She’ll have to go into a facility for longer term care.
-Her cat is home alone. I live 3000 miles away. The cat was left with enough food and water for another few days or so, but I’ll have to go and take care of the cat soon. It stresses me to have to miss work and disrupt my routine. I’m also worried about my mom’s health, of course.
(My mom was my only support system and she’s not really able to talk to me. I really do feel like I need a professional.) - +1 y
Wow, yeah, that's a bunch of big stuff right there. I understand that must be so overwhelming to deal with.
Is there no other family or close friends who can help out?
With something so big I would really say professional help and otherwise take one small step at a time. Focus on what needs to be done here and now and take one day at a time.
I'm so sorry for what you're going through, I wish you strength. - +1 y
Flower, I am here in California, Is that near your mother's home? If she lives anywhere near me in Orange County, I will drive there, and see if I can get local people (police, church, shelter groups) to help with the pet in any way possible. Tell me what I can do to help you and I will try.

@Bricealan I’m in California, but my mom lives across the country in South Carolina. Thanks for offering though! That was very sweet.

I heard a joke a long time ago, it said "Despite the high cost of living, why do so many people continue to do so?"
Well duh, cause the alternative is not living. Anyways, overwhelming just keep on pushing through it best you can, no matter what you do.

+1 y1) exercise, eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and get a good night's sleep.
2) make your bed every morning. No matter what happens during your day you'll have an orderly bed to go home to.
3) make a list of things that you need to accomplish; knock out a few of the low-hanging fruit ones; it will help
4) remember that you have to eat a 4000 lb elephant one bite at a time.10 ReplyWhy does it feel overwhelming? Focus on a goal maybe

Because my mom is in the hospital with COVID and it seems to be having some long-term effects on her both mentally and physically.
Her doctors say that after she’s discharged, she still won’t be well enough to return home. So after the hospital, they’re sending her to a facility for longer term care.
+1 yStep back and examine the situation. Try to find out what, specifically, has you feeling overwhelmed and try to fix or stop those problems. In the meantime, do your best to avoid taking on any more trouble.

Or take a little quiet time for yourself and think about what has you overwhelmed. Ask yourself if it's as big a problem as you are making it. In ten years are you going to remember it? If you do are you going to care?
