If it is actual depression, start with a visit to a psychologist. Get treatment if needed. Once you get treatment or if it wasn't actually depression but only unfulfillment or similar:

The most obvious thing is to make sure you improve your hormonal and chemical balance by doing what science has proven to work:

- exercise consistently (cardio boosts serotonin, resistance boosts dopamine and testosterone) - eat "cleaner" without going to extremes (your body will have the right ingredients to balance itself out)- do what you find meaningful (sense of purpose, if your occupation won't provide it, work towards other goals or purposes in your free time, sense of achievement will make it even better when you get there)- improve social relationships (oxytocin and others are balanced in social and hierarchical interactions) Do this for a month. If it doesn't help you, check your hormone levels with a specialist, there might be other reasons beyond what can be managed at home with lifestyle choices. But I'm quite sure this WILL help if you really go for it.

You need to seek professional help if you are dealing with depression. A psychiatrist will help you to cope with this stage. There are various tips that you can try to stay positive in your life, such as sharing your feelings or thoughts with your close ones.

Your diet really is the key to a lot of how you feel. Exercise is, too. Systemic depression (not emotional) is controlled by these two things almost exclusively. An animal that lives in an area with poor food and water sources might not even have the will to breed. And of course, that definitely should over into emotional depression. Put that same animal in a better situation, and they'll be happy and active within days or weeks.
