+1 yI'd personally recommend you not to go with any Asian martial art. I did Karate for 6 years and I find it useless in real world. They're techniques used to fight other people who also know how to fight. They look great in tournaments. But in real life, must of the techniques you cannot use them cause your opponent "didn't punch you right".
I did a form of wrestling then for 3 years and I found it so much better. Wrestling comes from the greko-roman style of fighting that was used from ancient times till late medieval periods to teach farmers and other folks who knew nothing about fighting to fight in battles against other folk like them. Is much dirtier and less attractive to watch, but a more realistic kind of fighting.
It's all about making someone lose control and pinging them to the ground. I was able to use these techniques successfully twice, while I was never able to use karate.
Some style of boxing could also be good if you're more of a punching person. And if not, a self-defense class.00 Reply

If that's too weird you could consider just training with a super soaker (water gun). Fill it with ghost pepper (perhaps dilluted) sauce instead of water if you ever need to use it as a weapon.
But if hand to hand combat is really your thing I'd suggest maybe fencing. In any real fight to the death the victory 99% goes to whoever lands the first blow. Fencing teaches you to land that first blow. Some sort of pokey edged weapon is a perfectly fine idea. A quick stab in the throat and the fight is over, move on to the next one.00 Reply
+1 yI think that's a great idea it's also a good way to get out your frustration. It's also great workout. I use to have a punching bag my ex took it her bought it so I thought that was fair I need a new one. Self defense classes could also help the teach you techniques to use

+1 yYour best bet, as with most things in life, is to talk to people in the real world that instruct various types of styles.
there is no real one size fits all.
One thing you can do in the meantime is conditioning, get fit, then get even fitter.
You need to expend maximum energy in shortest possible time and still have energy to get away.
A decent gym, instructor (try a couple) will likely give an idea what works for you best.
It would be crazy to pick something brilliant if it takes 6 years to master etc.
Fitness and basic self defence classes are a good starting point.00 ReplyShotokan karate is particularly suited to the female physique.
Shotokan is so suited to women that (all other things being equal) women are faster and can hit almost as hard as a man (speed = power).
The low stances are ideal for the female’s lower centre of gravity.
Speed and power come from the hips. Women have a larger/heavier hip/pendulum to move, which, combined with their lighter construction, makes them faster.
I recommend a dojo that is affiliated with the Japan Karate Association, from which I have both a black belt and an instructor’s certification.00 ReplyI'd recommend Aikido because it's highly focused on balance and downing your opponent using their own momentum and force. Which is a really useful thing if you're facing bigger or stronger opponents.
Some basic grappling jiujitsu is great to know how to get free of some holds and whatnot.
Ninjutsu, they teach you a lot about nerves and where to grab to inflict maximum pain. It's a very pragmatic art.
I'd stay away from kicks and punches to be honest, it's nice to be able to throw a good punch or kick but they separate fighters into weight categories for a good reason. There's no weight categories if people are attacking you on the street.00 Reply
Check what’s closet to your area and let me know. I can guide you from there. Just remember to always be aware of your surroundings and it never hurts to familiarize yourself with a deterrent of some sort.
I recommend a Spyderco delica with a Wiseman Signet ring. It’s small enough to be carried in a purse and easy enough to keep concealed at the ready walking to and from your vehicle. Thumb in the ring and blade facing down… in the event some psycho bear hugs you, you would have just enough blade to burry it in the thigh and rip that mfer’s artery.00 ReplyI'm no professional, but Jujitsu (and possibly more specifically Brazilian Jujitsu) seems to be the best option for most people.
There's a level of intelligence to most fighting styles, but in my layman's perspective, it seems to rely heavily on intelligence rather than strength. As it focuses on exploiting the weaknesses of the human body. Rather than, for example, the ability to deliver a powerful punch (of which your opponent might be more powerful or stronger than you).
So Jujitsu (or Brazilian Jujitsu) allows people of a lesser strength to have, in my opinion, a much better chance to fend off against a stronger opponent.01 Reply
+1 yThing is that nowadays fighting is pointless, people don't fight anymore, they use weapons, even for things such as rape, the man can still overpower a woman but for some reason weapons are still a part of it, so it just says that if you learn how to fight, it might be completely useless in some situations.

You're absolutely right.
Raping someone without a weapon is SO much more fulfilling. - +1 y
No I'm saying she should get a weapon, even if it's a knife

Okay good.
Sick and tired of seeing people say weapons aren't "honorable," whatever the hell that means. - +1 y
Beats any boxing or karate, people rob old ladies with weapons, it's about time people lvl out the playing field a bit

u +1 yKarate is probably the most accessible of the martial arts. It would be good to have a friend with whom you could practice and you are more likely to find someone who is studying karate.
00 Reply 468 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Boxing karate Taekwondo street fighting they're all good but you actually learn how to use the weapon
00 Reply4.9K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. No, if you want to train in martial arts to get in shape that is one thing but fighting an attacker is something else. You are better off avoiding dangerous situations and practice your running.
00 ReplyKrav maga is focused on self defense in real world situations and includes moves that are off-limits in many competitive martial arts like attacks to the groin and eyes.

if not available: MMA.
If you have no mixed martial arts classes I'd suggest a combination of boxing and ju jitsu00 Reply You'd be better off getting some good quality oc spray and learn how to use it.

u +1 yfight who... fight what?
12 Reply- +1 y
nobody specific, just self defense
- +1 y
well, I think the best way to go about this would be, first... know yourself, and know about your body
because that's quite relevant for this and it does matter... how tall are or how short are you, are you heavier or more slender... are you athletic, are you sporty, are you fairly active or maybe you do not have any experience or background for "physicality"
if you're indeed apt enough for some actual fighting, then yes... you could then try and learn some actual self-defense tactics or could even go on with some basics on some MMA training
if you were not, maybe you can look at alternatives for self defense, and also awareness, readiness and such... whether is items, gadgets or even weapons, or a dog depending on where you live

The story is different for women 😔 they're more likely to get attacked in the middle of the night...
- +1 y
Yeah but I think now people are more aware of it. With social media and stuff. So yeah,. it's a perception thing, not that it actually got more dangerous, but that we are more aware of how dangerous it is.
Still good to know how to defend yourself. When you are up against someone who won't just take your money and leave but actually wants to hurt you, try to defend yourself is the only thing you can do if you didn't have time to run.
I recommend JuiJutsu. It can seriously fuck a person up. So, use with caution

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yLearn to use a gun. That’s far more beneficial than learning to fight. At least learn it first, then physical self defense after.
