Can an xray tell the difference between a herniated disc and a degenerative disc?

I mean the xray doesn't show cartilage or any of that just that one of the joints was closer than the others was all I saw.

Yes, a herniated disc is a disc that is not where it is supposed to be. A degenerated disk is one that is worn out. Cartilige dows show up on an Xray. I just had a hip replacement and I could see the cartilige on the new hip and the bad hip had no cartlidge.

How can someone that's 32 have a worn out disc already?

What does he do for a job? Lots of people have repetitive stress on certain body parts.
