I did this the other day and had soo many people staring at me like it wasn't acceptable or something.
I mean the pool does say not to bring food or drink in the pool but I don't think breastfeeding counts as food/drink.
Would this make you uncomfortable if you were swimming and a lady was breastfeeding right next to you?

Of COURSE breast milk is food… otherwise why are you letting your child suck your breast, if it is not for life sustaining nutrition? While I do not in ANY WAY believe that women should be shamed for breast feeding in public, if the owners of a pool require no food, or drink in or around the pool, then you need to respect the owners rules, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! Look, if you were on a sinking ship, then being a young mom with a baby makes you extremely special, but not in a pool! Why not feed you baby BEFORE you go to the pool? Some moms love there (especially) young daughters to see breast feeding to show them what breasts are for, and how natural it is to breast feed, and obviously some guy’s are gonna perv over seeing part of your breast! If you object to any of that.. then feed your baby at home!

Yes, because you WERE doing something wrong… You ignored the pool rules by feeding your baby IN the pool. I’m SURE that ALL the mother’s of babies and toddlers would LOVE to keep some juice and snacks by the edge of the pool, for THEIR babies, but they can’t because that’s a violation of the rules! You are NOT more important than they are, and neither are the nutritional requirements of your baby versus their babies! I understand that you need to feed your baby, but you don’t NEED to do it IN the pool! Besides, under the shade of a table umbrella would not only be cooler, it would be a LOT safer for baby to be out of the sun! When I lived at home, we always had a pool, my home now doesn’t. I have to use a pool on campus that doesn’t allow food or beverages ANYWHERE! The closest you can get a snack is your locker! I used to have a floatie drink holder, with a covered snack plate IN the pool with me at home. I may be tiny & thin, but if I don’t get enough complex carbs each hour, I’ll pass out! But I still RESPECT the pool rules, and if I feel light headed I immediately get to the edge, and get out of the pool! Then I go to my locker, load up on energy, and then I decide to either go back, or take a shower and leave! Have you thought about getting to know the other moms w/ small kids and babies, and make a deal where you watch their kids while they feed their baby/toddler, and they watch yours while you breastfeed? It seems like such a simple solution to a really simple problem. Believe me, I’m sure ALL moms, not just you, are frustrated with the no food rules. So put up a note where they are allowed, seeking other moms who need help as much as you? You have a baby, and that’s wonderful, it’s the most beautiful thing ever to see a mother feeding her baby naturally. But again, that does not make you special, or able to ignore rules, UNLESS a you are on a sinking ship… Then, you take precedence over everyone! Otherwise you need to obey the same rules as the rest of us.

As for you other point… While I understand that many women prefer to cover up because of modesty, no women needs to hide her baby under a blanket or towel, which could impair the babies ability to breathe! Nobody was taking about legality of it. Nobody said she couldn't. But there's three pillars to morality. 1. Legality, 2. Morals 3. Values

Is it legal, as it proteins law yes... but that doesn't make right. Just because you, doesn't mean you should. Is there a law about farming in public? No there's not, but it would be really rude to sit down at your table in restaurant fire up the place with nastiest stink this side of creation.

Well the answer to that question is all dependent on what you value as a person. So obviously you asked a question inorder to give yourself a platform to press your own personal values onto other people.

I personally would be very uncomfortable with the idea of men enjoying his sight of watching me and my baby breastfeed. Someone could be recording from far away. Nowadays people who have top notched gadgets can even record you with a camera hidden in their glasses, belongings or body cams.

And currently, we live in a very dangerous society with a lot of crime. Breastfeeding everywhere in public is like wearing a gold chain around your neck everywhere , not knowing when will be the next time you get robbed.

You can't explain social ettiquette to those who were never raised with social ettiquette. They don't think social ettiquette exists. Its the same thing as your parents telling you to wait until everyone is at the dinner table before you start eating Thanksgiving feast or carving the turkey. That said, I might think it would be more comfortable for mommy to sit down under a tree with baby to feed rather than to risk getting dunked, etc. in the pool: some of those "lazy Rivers" can have some rambunctious people in them.

But I see no problem with her nursing wherever she wants to do it. In our bible group years ago, a mom there just turned her chair around a bit and fed her kid while she was answering questions. A sister of one of our sons-in-law really let things hang loose when we were at an indoor hamburger place- and she was barely covered- for a post-graduation party of one of our grandkids, so I'm kind of used to it.

And as a Massage Therapist, I have massaged a fair number of breasts of my patients and clients.

Honestly this would not be okay to me. I know all these people with jump in on this and shame me, by talking about how its a natural thing and women have a right and so on and so on.

But to me its not right, there could be other younger children around, and even though I breast feed as a baby, by the age of 5 or 6 that would be confusing to me to see someone doing in public. By age 12 to 14 I would be trying to sneak a look.

I am fine with women breast feeding in public in general, my wife did. But it is so easy to cover up and do it privately without exposing yourself to the world. It is not socially acceptable to me and by doing it in a public place is like your trying to force your personal beliefs on me by trying to make feel like I am wrong for having my own feelings and values. Its just a think you don't have to do that when there are other ways in which you could accomplish what you need to do with out making it an issue for any one else.

Honestly I do not really have right to make you feel uncomfortable, but on the same token you do not have the right to make other people who want to enjoy the pool uncomfortable either. And by doing that you are most likely making others or someone else feel uncomfortable and that's not right to me. Newborns can't regulate their body temperature and are usually not permitted to be in a pool. Plus the excessive chlorine and other chemicals can ruin their eyes and cause them all sorts of infections.

On top of that you're feeding the child in that environment. It's ingesting all that piss and shit in the pool as well as whatever else is floating in that environment.

There are two issues with this. First, it's a bit like peeing in the pool because it's a bodily fluid. In reality it's not a serious issue but it's definitely going to be cringe worthy for some people.

Second, there is definitely nothing wrong with breastfeeding in public in general, but I think it's just courteous to others to make a reasonable attempt to cover up, which I would think would be difficult in a pool.

Breastfeeding is amazing and certainly the best thing for your child, but there are just some things that should be done out of kindness to those around you.
