+1 yVitamins absolutely, they are essential to your health.
Supplements you only need when you don't get enough of certain stuff from your regular diet, or when you have a really huge big need for certain stuff.
Eg when you are a body builder and you need a huge amount of protein, you can either eat huge amount of specific high protein foods, or you can just use protein supplements. Or when you are vegan and may need iron and vitamin D supplements, or when you can't eat fresh fruits for a long time, you need vitamin C supplements.10 Reply

If your question is if the body needs supplements, such as vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients and trace elements, the short answer is no, if you are eating a balanced diet and wide variety of food groups.
However, individuals with minerals and vitamins deficiency due to a narrow eating diet, medical condition, genetic conditioning, or environmental condition would need minerals and vitamins supplementation.00 Reply
+1 yNo, not if you eat a completely well balanced diet, but people go to college for years for nutrition and have different opinions on what is important for you to have. The best thing is to try to eat as well as you can, and just take ONE multivitamin a day. Again, the eating well is the most important part of the equation! The MVI, is just that little extra help to get a well balanced diet.

not if we manage to eat enough nutrients. anyone with a varied and natural diet probably won't need any.

vitamin B12 for vegans
omega-3-fatty acids are mainly found in fish/algae. for people who don't eat a lot of that it can be smart to supplement as well00 Reply

It's actually difficult to get everything you are supposed to get. You would have to pay huge attention to your diet to get everything.

The recommended requirements are intentionally more than what you need. In the US, they review those requirements every ten years. They look for widespread health issues that are diet related. If they find common deficiencies, they over compensate to get people to change direction.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI've lost count of how many times people talk about eating a balanced diet meaning you don't need supplements... but they always ignore the poor depleted soil, pollution, impatient farming methods. Not to mention the use of chemical fertilizer that has destroyed the sulfur cycle. If you think you can get all of your minerals by eating a balanced diet then you are just fooling yourself.

ROFL. A lot of Americans are actually deficient due to their poor diets. It's common to see people in grocery stores with carts full of shit overprocessed and other cheap food but then America is the country of beached whales 🐋 for a reason.

@TheGentleGal87 Talk to physicians and get medical opinions. I looked at this issue and that is what I was consistently told. Yes, there are tons of people buying vitamin supplements and most of them are absolutely unnecessary.
