I burnt my thigh with an iron and now its dark purple/red. How long will this take to heal?

A long time, those types of burns take a long time. I had a blister and I'm 6 months removed from the incident but the lingering result of the injury is this there to see. Drinking wheatgrass juice is good for skin recovery though.

Do you think I could sunbathe, would it help heal it or make it worse?

Sun bathing would probably not help. Better to cover it if you're going sunbathing. There's a reason your body creates a scab when it's trying to heal skin.
Its going to take longer to heal because it's not a deep cut but a burn that covers a large surface area.

Use some Antibiotic Ointment on it and that will make it heal
