Cold sore treatment?

So like a shit ton of people I sometimes get cold sores. I'm assuming as a kid I must have gotten the virus from someone. Well a cold sore just randomly decided to pop-up on my lip today. And I haven't had one in like 15 years or longer. So how the hell do you treat these things and make it go away?

Unfortunately, until they find a cure, you're stuck with them.
A daily dose of 500mg Lysine might help lessen occurrences. If one does pop up, double the dose. I read somewhere that applying a q-tip soaked with nail polish remover will help speed healing. You could ask your doctor for a prescription of acyclovir ointment. Have heard it works.

although they just go away on their own naturally over a week or so
