How do you feel knowing polio is back?

Question

Vaccination numbers for polio have dropped below herd immunity levels in the united states and a case has been found in New York as well as the virus being found in sewage waters (meaning there are many people who have the virus and don't know it)

Are you vaccinated against polio? If not now would be a good time to do it!

At the end of 2019, I had a great-uncle die. He was far from young, but what ultimately got him was complications from polio- the polio he'd caught at six months old. It haunted him his entire life; he never walked without a cane. I took some comfort, at the time, in knowing that he was one of the last, perhaps THE last, people that wretched disease would kill (at least in this country).

Now this. This, at a time when medical authorities made decisions that would've cost them their licenses just a few years earlier, obliterating public trust in the medical establishment. This, at a time when a nonstop media barrage convinced the public that there's no difference between people advocating basic medical caution and the Wakefield crowd. This, at a time when it doesn't really matter how I finish this paragraph, because the society-wide Milgram experiment that's been running for the last two years and counting has made the population at large stop trusting their own judgement when anyone in a lab coat says otherwise.

I was in Manhattan when they started reporting this last week, and I was just like “AWESOME.”, lmao. Not really a problem for me, I was vaxxed for it as a baby l, but weird to hear about it. My dad is 90, and he said he had about one classmate a year die from it growing up, that is WILD. I was like “how many, K-12?” He goes “I don’t know…. maybe 15?” FIFTEEN!!! Crazy. And he said it was kind of whatever because it would tend to be a summertime disease, so you’d just come back to school and a kid wouldn’t be there, and you’d just hear he or she died over summer vacation, so it was sort of “out of sight, out of mind.”, not as jarring as a kid stops showing up one day and then two weeks later they’re like “Timmy isn’t alive anymore.” But yeah, seems almost primitive to be hearing about polio being around, I think we all had it chalked up as ‘extinct’.

I don't even know, well I am not sure... and that's messed up

I'm in a generation in which we got some of the "old school" vaccines, and others we did not because they're not a risk anymore, so they said

either by the end of the year, or start of 2023... I'll see what I can get, because there's also few of those viruses everyone gets as a kid, but I didn't catch them and they can lead to more complications if you get them as an adult, lol

I am angry about it. One of my best friends growing up had polio as a kid. It was still around even though a vaccine existed. As time went by it pretty much disappeared in this country. This is the result of Biden letting illegal aliens from 133 different countries stream across the border and get flown all over the country spreading covid and whatever else they have brought in. Not only has polio made a comeback but tuberculosis and small pox are back as well.

It’s only because the babies born during covid etc didn’t get vaxxed for polio and other diseases bc the parents were scared to take them get the vaccine because of the threat of covid in hospitals

Had that vax for a long time. Polio is one of those younger age list shots, so more could get away with it unlike MMR that's required for many colleges.
