Why are so many people wearing face masks?

I see them every day, and they're usually old grannies. Are they afraid of something, something contagious? Maybe they're worried about computer viruses.

The world's most respected virologists are continuing to identify new variations (new strains) of Covid. Plus, original strains have re-infected many people. People are still dying from Covid. There are many people who have medical conditions that make them more susceptible to Covid then others and they can die from getting it. And though they remain isolated at home, relatives caring for them have to go out to do things like shopping for food. They wear masks to prevent them from picking up any strains of it and carrying it back home.

Medical facilities and even pharmacies are requiring the wearing of masks.

Curious why you think you need to mock people who recognize the dangers still in Covid, as well as other diseases. I see many people still wearing masks, and they are not "old grannies". They are intelligent people trying to protect themselves and their families from serious illness and even death.

You are right that it is untroversial. It is a fact that people are still getting Covid and it is a fact that people can still die from it. Also, that people can catch it and not get really sick, but pass is along to others who can die from it. If you don't like the facts, get over it and stop spewing your mocking ignorance. Okay, so there are new strains. So what? Are these strains more virulent? No. Easier to spread? No. Fundamentally different in some mysterious way from the vast majority of other coronaviruses? Not that either.
People need to stop living in fear. We had diseases like this before 2020, and no one panicked like they are now about them.

Wearing a seat belt is taking a precaution, not living in fear. Using a pedestrian crossing instead of running across the highway is taking a precaution, not living in fear. Police wearing bullet proof vests are taking normal precautions for their job, not living in fear. If you want to ignore common sense with your life, have at it, but don't belittle people who take easy to do precautions to protect their lives and the lives of their families.

There is still Covid and it's not like people want to get sick. If it's not bothering anyone then I don't see why it's becoming such a problem. I still wear a mask in gatherings and so do a lot of people I know. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Some people are at a higher risk for respritory problems than others. If you've never had pneumonia or any lung infection , then you probably won't get it. If you have had pneumonia or any other SERIOUS lung infection, then you get it. Plus, you don't know if they are sick. They could be protecting YOU!

I was wearing a handkerchief on my face before that lol. The thing is, most of the time I am thinking about something, and it may reflect on my face. It may be bad, good, or I may look like a mental guy, talking to himself and all, to people.
