If you suddenly needed an emergency organ donation, would you accept one from friends or family?

It depends. i had a friend that got a kidney from his mother and it seemed to work out okay. I probably would refuse a heart transplant and probably a brain transplant from most of my relatives.

O would. My friend received a bone marrow transplant from his son. It added two more years to his life.

No. Definitely not. Unless it was a spouse who needed me and it was an extra organ they could live without. I’d rather die than endanger a family members life for my own

It would suck for me. Type O- so only another with my rare blood type could donate to me. On the happy side, I am a universal donor so if someone else needed a kidney or part of a liver and the other factors matched I could donate.

@humanearth Oh wow. Do you have a backup supply that you donate to just in case you need a transfusion? I know they've done a lot with expanders, but still. There are only like what, 1000 or 1500 like you on the entire planet?

I would not. I had a good life and would not want to jeprodize the health of a person I loved.

I think I would still say no. My body is not a temple and I would not want their sacrifice be in vain. I'm sure there are. more worthy recipients than me. But I'm saying all this as a healthyish individual, who knows what the reality would be.

Good question. I don't think I could, not even from a family member who I dislike. There's always a risk to the donor and I wouldn't want to be (or feel) responsible for any issues that may arise.

Myself I wouldn’t want to weaken someone I love. My stance angered them quite a bit.
