Trending & News I partly agree with what you are proposing.
I do NOT think GaG should have category where people ask for help with crisis with mental problems, since there are far too many trolls who could tip someone already desperate into self-harm.
However, I DO think Mental Health should be a category for people to discuss their experiences and what helps or not WITHOUT prescribing anything.
There is a huge stigma on Mental Health and leaving it out altogether seems, no offense, lazy. You can still mod out all suicide posts. And suicidal thoughts are NOT the only consequences of Mental Health issues, they vary in every kind of way you can think of.
Those subjects should be talked about, and have already been so in some vary good MyTakes over the years. Questions, with the current moderation, would also be beneficial.
Since this became a Superb opinion, I am going to repost a comment I made on an answer I think complements my opinion above.
"This is on the surface a site to ask questions to the opposite gender.
GaG is not a suicide hotline, not even an agony uncle/aunt site.
There are too many trolls and uncaring people for that.
Check out some of the other answers here and remember almost all countries in the world have suicide help hotlines with trained professionals to help, not to mention online resources like
sprc. org
(Suicide Prevention Resource Center - it's a good site from what I have seen with plenty of information, FAQs, guides, links to help...)
Netflix's "13 reasons why" brought a lot of suicide related issues, and the above site addressed them thoroughly. The show itself has a self-harm prevention site that shows at the end but I can't recall what it is and I don't have Netflix right now (a little help GaG Community? Pretty please with sugar on top? 🙏🏻)
There is also https://www.crisistextline.org/
For those who would prefer SMS texting, WhatsApp, and about as much anonymity as humanly possible online.
If you or someone you know is self-harming or talking about that, or appearing or being depressed seek help from one of those resources, or a doctor, preferably a mental specialist, you trust immediately. I repeat: IMMEDIATELY!
False alarms you can resolve easily. Self-harm is something to be dealt with carefully, swiftly and with the person in question as well.
Wonder do enough people here even care enough about the topic to discuss it in a caring way.
I get the vibe that the majority of people here are anti suicide and by that I mean they just got the whole "suicide is selfish and for weak pussies" mentality.
"bAcK iN mY dAy I hAd tO eAT diRt and dRiNk SEwAge WaTer aNd never tHouGht aBouT suiCiDe oNce, KidS tOdAy wOuLd'Nt unDeErstAnd".
That's what they sound like.
True true.
It doesn't do anything and people are ignorant about suicide so no.
Not until it hires licensed doctors to answer all the questions.

i voted "no" but not cause it rarely helps. it sure "can". i said no because having someone who is suicidal talk to internet trolls can do more harm than good. and it is for that very reason that gag deletes suicidal questions. they understandably don't want any liability for someone killing themself over a stupid online chat on this website.
if you're suicidal, call the hotlines that exist in every country. there you can be sure you're not being trolled or triggered by toxic people to make a horrible permanent decision.
i mean mental health in general can be discussed in the health@fitness section.
No because of the legal liability.
This is why questions related to suicide are always taken down by moderators.
I feel that it could be helpful, but I honestly believe it will get filled with people just trying to make fun of the issue or torment other users who are vulnerable with any mental health related issues.
Well it's definitely not helping these people if they go on here too seek for help and their shit gets taken down, personally I think it causes more harm than good to take them down, that is my assumption tho
Found this post on here an hour ago, one hour after this post.
I don't know if the pic will upload, they haven't been, but he says "he has the urge to pick up a knife"
It's all right.
Meh, I don't know if a health corner on GaG would be... helpful on here. I don't know, maybe because it's a place to ask stuff and learn. Sooo I don't know, it could, iuuoono.
Yeah. I don’t like how if you post about feeling suicidal, they delete the post 🥴 people should be allowed to discuss those thoughts and find people to talk to about it

@MAC1983 you wanna talk about uncaring people? the Suicide hotline is literally the most useless shit ever lol. so many people have bad experiences calling them. Those people do not care, you tell them that you want to kill yourself and they’re just like “Um, don’t do that”
I guess it does work to an extent because people call and get so pissed off from their responses or the fact they hung up on them that they get distracted from what they’re sad about lol.
@MAC1983 but if someone is desperate enough to use this site (cause like you said, this site isn’t filled with the nicest people) as a cry for help, then why can’t we let them cry for help 🥴
Maybe they don’t have friends and want to talk to someone who can actually relate to them, instead of calling some bullshit hotline or some website that was created by people who can’t relate
@JustinTheGreat
1st comment: I gave more than one online resource and advised people to see a mental health specialist they trust. Of course the quality of the service relies on the investment on those on the other side of the line as well as them on the caller. There are rotten apples everywhere. One must look for the best options and have a bit of "luck" with who is helping and where you're seeking help. 🤷🏻♂️
2nd comment: I'll let @PrettyPriya or someone from the moderator/administrator team answer those questions.
@MAC1983 @JustinTheGreat Suicide is (and should be) allowed to be discussed. The only thing that violates the terms here is if a user is asking advice HOW TO do it or we feel they are an imminent threat to themselves.
Admin takes it very seriously and sends a message. Yes, I know, that likely isn't going to do much but they are the rules that we are given.
That said, I do NOT remove posts of those looking for help because they feel suicidal. If they are genuinely worried and want advice about how to cope, that is completely fine. The issue is when they start asking users how to do it.
If you see a post like this, you are free to DM me or tag me on it so I can talk to the asker. I am not a professional for mental health, but I have seen enough of it here to be effective most of the time.
Goddamn auto-correct, @PrettyPriya, that's the second time it does that. Sorry.
Did you mess with some AIs recently? 😆 Just kidding, carry on.
@MAC1983 haha nooooo I don’t mess with anyone! 😕
This is a good post though. One that should be taken notice of. It is a real problem and those that have these thoughts should be allowed to discuss it.
That said! If I catch users encouraging someone or telling them how or why they should, I’ll freeze their ass quicker than they can blink.
Users that have these thoughts should be allowed to have a safe space to ask for help, guidance and get good advice. Not ridiculed or cheered on.
I take it serious when I run across a post like that and do my best to be helpful and kind to someone that is troubled. I never want to see someone take their life simply because they haven’t thought it through and had some, even a little, support.
Thanks for the mention by the way.
@MAC1983 I appreciate the tanks but I always am here to help when I can. I like when users tag me for advice, whether site related or otherwise.
It is never a bother to me and always appreciated. By the way…it is still “miss” until December 😕
You folks have yourself a nice weekend and let’s hope we don’t have any of these posts we are discussing. Never happy to run across one.
uh would be cool but some people here be judgmental
What are they going to discuss, exactly? How crazy they are, or how much their medical bills are?
Sounds like a good idea until you have random anon trolls saying, "hehe kys dumbass" in the opinions section
This whole site is one big mental health corner.
No sense there are so many toll free phone numbers an doctors offer help to
I don't think the people here are to be trusted with something that serious.
Yeap I'm good with that.
That be such a great initiative 😇
Yes I think this would be a wonderful idea
Yes! About time.
GaG is already that platform
thars good to know thanks
Thanks I did not know
