I smoked my first cigarette with my cousin and I’m not addicted?

I’m just curious I never want to be a smoker in my life. I smoked my first cigarette with my cousin, a year younger than me. How many times of smoking does it take to get addicted. I also though smoking cigarettes was a lot more potent than it actually is.

Each cigarette makes you a little more addicted. Eventually lung cancer will make it so you can't walk without gasping for air. That will take years, tho. Enjoy it while you can.

You're thinking about smoking, even posting questions online. You probably enjoy the comradery, hanging out, smoking chatting. You're already addicted. Maybe you can quit. Maybe not.

understood. That's how nicotine addiction works. It isn't like one day you're not addicted and the next you are. You're asking this question because there's a teeny-tiny craving. With every puff it gets more demanding.

Is there a way to safely do something without it hurting you or getting addicted? Like you can drink alcohol without getting addicted but if you drink too much you can have alcohol addiction

It’s like getting high once you do it it’s a new feeling just like taste is a sense you kind of want to try it again to see exactly what’s it’s like because you forgot exactly what it taste like. I mean is till remember what it does and my throat was soar and irritated and it tasted like it smelled but somehow I’m still kind of curious.

I believe booze is a different addiction. People liken it to "self medication". It seems to be more tied to situations. I don't think people are actually addicted to the alcohol as they need to medicate themselves to relieve stress or something else.

Nicotine is a truly addictive substance in the same way that heroin is. Eventually, you will crave it. I'm sure you've heard the stories.

Yeah I have. Do you think not matter what protocols I take that trying another cigarette will only make it closer to an addiction?

A few years ago, I hung out with a group that smoked. I smoked maybe 3 cigarettes during that time. I remember over the next few months thinking it would be nice to have one. I wasn't addicted, but definitely was heading in that direction. Had I indulged, I'm sure each one would have made it more difficult to stop.

Every one is different. Some people have no trouble quitting, some can't. Hang out with your friends. If they smoke, politely say you're not into it and move the conversation to something else. Nothing good will come of you trying to smoke while hoping you don't get addicted.

It's a bit like measuring a flood in the number of individual raindrops. There's a range involved and much depends in your own personality. Some people are addicted before they even have one and just dont know what they're craving. Some can smoke for years and then just decide to quit cold turkey. But on average I would say if you smoke to the point where one can predict when you're about to smoke (i. e. every time you drive somewhere you smoke, every break at work, etc..) then you are addicted.

Depends. Some people do not have addictive genes. It’s harder for them to become reliant as easily as others. Smoking is hard on a growing body. You don’t need it.

You don't get addicted by 1 cig. Your fear is eliminated. You become more open to becoming a social smoker. Takes a lot more than one to get addicted to it.

Yeah I never want to get addicted to cigarettes ever but I also am curious to try it again because I only had like 3 puffs of one. But I’m ant my lungs to stay as healthy as possible and not get addicted
