Depends on the reason for excess weight. It’s not impossible but it can be more difficult.


PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a hormone imbalance where small egg follicles don’t grow to ovulation. They can grow large and sometimes pose a threat to women when they rupture. The hormone imbalance makes it difficult to track cycles and sometimes you don’t get a period at all. Which makes it difficult to conceive. But it is important to remember that with PCOS you can sometimes release a mature egg and get pregnant accidentally. Not everyone with PCOS struggle with weight though.


Thyroid issues can also contribute to obesity and infertility specifically hypothyroidism; where your body doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones to meet your bodies needs this can sometimes slow your metabolism.


Diabetes; you body can’t absorb the sugar in your system. This can lead to a whole host of weight issues both obesity and weight loss depending on the severity and type.

It's harder because the more excess fat your body has the more estrogen it produces (fat as well as the ovaries produce estrogen) too much estrogen in your body is basically the same as taking hormonal birth control.

You have to be healthy to for your menstrual cycle to be in a good shape and being fat is everything but healthy. Fat affects some hormones that block ovulation.
