Do swim shorts interfere with swimming (for a gym class)?

We're starting swim class next year and since it's co-ed I want to wear swim shorts over my bathing suit. But shorts aren't allowed which make swimming harder so I was wondering, guys who are used to wearing swim shorts, do just ordinary swim shorts interfere with swimming?

Specifically, the regulations are:

Girls: one-piece swimsuit, swim cap for long hair, optional swim shorts (above the knee)
No street clothes or swim shirts, no excessively loose shorts which impede swimming

Boys: swim shorts (above the knee) or speedos
No street clothes or swim shirts, no excessively loose shorts which impede swimming

They don't interfere with swimming (although I don't like wearing them). Ideally, you'll want to find a pair with an inseam of 3" or 5". Try buying a pair of men's or women's running shorts (they still look like swim shorts so they'll meet your regulations.) They'll drag the least. Also, look for nylon or some other synthetic fabric, you do not want wool or cotton.

For our school gym class unit guys have to wear a jammer with no shirt and girls have to wear a 1 peice made for swimming we’re not allowed to wear a shirt in the pool area or shorts over the jammer and girls can’t wear swim shorts also and we have to wear a swim cap and goggles we are onley supposed to wear what we wear in the pool

If they are tight fitting shorts I don't think that they'll interfere noticeably. Those kinds or speedos are what boys wear in my swim group without it ever being an issue.

Not sure. Rules seem excessive.
What about s one piece swimming suit with swim skirt? I wear this on holidays at the beach.

Yup. Im a swimmer and a speedo feels best when doing any kind of serious swimming
