I was telling my best friend about how happy I am in my relationship and that I'm planning to introduce her to my boyfriend of almost a year soon. (They haven't met yet because of where we live and plane tickets don't happen to fit well with a college budget) Then she tells me that she's excited for me and can't wait to meet him. Followed by asking what he got me. Which confused me but when I asked she explained it as its not official until he gets me jewelry. I feel pretty official even without jewelry. So I wanted to know how others felt about it.

Umm wow. A guy doesn't need to get his girlfriend jewelry for it to be an 'official' relationship. Most of the time the girls that think that are materialistic. In my opinion since you've been dating him for almost a year, that seems pretty darn official for me.
