That depends if it’s viral or bacterial. If it’s viral it will eventually go away on its own. If bacterial, you need antibiotics as there is no other way to treat it. Please go see a doctor before you leave this for too long. If it’s bacterial pinkeye, leaving it untreated can potentially damage your eye or your eyesight.

Some things you can do until you get a diagnosis from a doctor - do not touch the infected eye and then touch your other eye. Do not wear contact lenses. Use a clean washcloth soaked in clean, cool water to wipe away crust and pus.

It depends off you have viral or bacterial conjunctivitis.

If it's viral, there really isn't much you can do aside from waiting it out (about 7-14 days).

If it's bacterial, antibiotic drops will help clear it up in a few days. If you don't use the drops, it could take up to 14 days.

In either situation, you need to not touch your eye. You can use regular eye drops to relieve the redness. Only touch your eye with a tissue and immediately wash your hands. You can spread it from one eye and back to the other again.

    Good luck! 👀

since you asked for a home remedy option...

there is one that has always helped and worked well here...

like @artsy_dragon said, do clean up your eyes as she said but, instead of just warm water, dip it in chamomile tea (make sure it is not too hot, lol, just warm enough)

if your case is a mild one, this one will be enough to help it and to make it a lot less annoying, for sure

Go see urgent care/doctor and they have a ophthalmic antibiotic that will make it go away.

If you don't want to go that route, go to CVS or Walgreens or the Target pharmacy -- there may be over the counter drops.

Got it. Makes sense. There's no one specific product that you're going to find in your home for it. Sometimes it can resolve on its own although you're going to be annoyed by it until then. In that case, go @artsy_dragon route and use water that's been boiled and cooled down to warm to clean it.

But, in some cases it won't resolve and it's bacterial and you need something for it. So the compromise would be that I assume you leave your house. There's a CVS or Walgreens everywhere (more of them than Starbucks it seems) -- stop there on your way to doing something else.

@artsy_dragon ... Walgreens is a large chain of pharmacies across the United States. They have an actual pharmacy with a licensed pharmacist dispensing prescription medication. They also have a huge section of beauty products and another huge section of what we call over the counter medications -- things you can buy without a prescription. There's also food and gift cards and other things. I did a quick internet search and it sounds a lot like Boots in the UK.

I've had it, and like 7 family members. Your own urine into your eye works immediately, while prescribed eye drops DID NOT. And some just didn't do anything and it just went away.

But do not do it if your urine is toxic because your body is full of toxins. Basically I'm saying do everything after your own choice and don't explode on me for recommending such a thing (which works fast, for everyone who tried)

And just to save some nerves, if you do it don't tell the experts, they will never ever think such a thing is allowable no matter how many people tell them it works (they're concerned about your urine containing infections)

Boil water and let it cool down before you gently wipe your eyelashes to clean off crusts with a clean cotton wool pad (1 piece for each eye).

Hold a cold flannel on your eyes for a few minutes to cool them down.

AND DON'T WEAR CONTACT LENSES, FAKE EYELASHES ETC.

You really need to see a doctor. if it's a bacterial infection treatment is with oral, or intraocular antibiotics, or a combination of both. If it's a viral infection the doctor will assess whether it's severe enough for a regimen of antiviral drugs, or if it will clear up on it's own. but only an opthamologist can determine what it is or what treatment if any is best for you. Good luck, Laura.

@MementoMori777 Oops, i forgot to mention, that using a warm moist compress on the affected eye until you can get in to see the doctor, may ease the symptoms. Just fill a bowl with hot to very warm water, soak a face cloth in the water and fold it up and place it on the affected eye while you are lying down. this might ease the symptoms. but make sure that you wash the face cloth you use in bleach as pinkeye is highly contagious, and the last thing you want is to infect other members of your household, or even to reinfect yourself! if you cannot get in to see an Opthamologist, try an urgent care center, they are much quicker, and may even be cheaper. Again, good luck!

Eye drops are a great way to fight pink eye & you want to do eye lid scrubs with lukewarm water as well. Buy baby shampoo put a little on your fingers & scrub your eyelids/eyelashes a few times a day. Baby shampoo works well because if you get a little in your eyes it doesn’t burn.

I've had pink eye a few times. I use the Polysporin Pink Eye drops (you can get them at the pharmacy) to treat it. Pink Eye is serious and it normally takes days (minimum) to get rid of it.

No pink eye is when your eye gets red and irritated and it can be from an allergy, virus or bacterial infection and it burns, itches and hurts, it feels like something is stuck in your eye 24/7 and it none stop itches, the more you scratch it the worst it gets
