Do you sleep with a white noise machine?

I've always slept with a fan because it gives a kind of natural, consistent white noise that's super relaxing and it blocks out the noise. Whenever I have to sleep without one (which is rarely), it feels like I can hear everything and I have a hard time sleeping.

I sleep with an oscillating humidifier with 10 different noise settings. It works quite well and keeps fresh and clean room during the sleeping hours. It is very helpful drowning out the sounds of the City with traffic, horns, yelling etc.

No, I live in a block of flats (apartment block) and I'm sure having white noise on all night would bug my neighbours, since I hear any and every noise from adjoining flats.
