When will I be happy again?

I've been unhappy since I was 15 and now I'm really, really tired

In the sense of time you have lived for a microsecond. Our brains havents stoped developing until it's about 24 years old. There are tons and tons of way to change a mindset. And emotions is a mindset, it's a chain of reactions and actions in response to events around us. And these chains can be called patterns. You see this one hear that and you start behaving and thinking a spesifc way everytime. There are ways to recognize these patterns, and stop to think for a moment and change the reaction. Over time and with some practice you will in the end almost naturally think differently. We as humans often think we carry a huge impact and we are first player character. But so is everyone else. We simply are not that unique, for the most part people don't really care if you run around in a unicorn suit or what ever. And no one other then ourselves will help "us" to heal. Aids and psychology treatment and such is just tools, they are not cures. No one will cure us. That is up to us. WE are the once that have to do the work, that have to want to get better, that have to put in the effort, that have to use the tools. No one will do it for us, ever. Sure someone will give us support and listen to us at times, but that won't cure us. It's not up to them, it's up to you and only you. There is this saying, it's so cheesy and feels so cheap to hear but it truly TRULY is true. It gets better, you get older, and it gets better. Our emotional reactions change as we get older, we start to give a bit less shit. We tend to get more mature. Tend to realize that some things that we believe was important was not important at all, we tend to learn that these dreams and hopes and idols we looked up to was not as real as we believed, we stat to see that we where more normal then we thought, that we had more then we thought, we where more like others then we thought. The things we can't do anything about is the things we learn to enjoy more. And the things were where to lazy to do anything about get easier to do. So don't look for help In others, don't look for help out there. Learn your emotional reactions tools and use them, look for help from inside you.

I seen one of your replies, I'm glad your depression itself seems to be lifting!
I think where your unhappiness is sourced is your own self esteem and view of yourself and that's very difficult to sort of change because it's your mind!
You might benefit from some talking therapies to release some of that tension in your head. They might be able to make you realise there's more to life than worrying about your own looks!

I am the same, I hate my looks, but I try to help others as much as I can because that gives me a purpose and sense of being a helpful person can boost me too!

Have you ever been evaluated for depression? You may also want to speak to a doctor about getting a blood test to determine your iron levels (low iron can lead to exhaustion and problems sleeping, etc.).


How is your physical activity? Do you get out and moving? Do you have hobbies that keep you entertained? Have you been isolating from friends and family?

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 15-20 years old. But after the age of 20, I started not to feel sad and depressed, but I am not happy either. My problem is that I don't find myself beautiful, so I can't feel positive. Other girls buy themselves beautiful clothes, but I don't, because I know that even in beautiful clothes I will still look ugly, so wearing them won't change anything.

Depression is not just sadness or extreme depression. It includes feelings of indifference and low self-esteem. It includes not feeling interested in your appearance and health. I would recommend re-evaluating your depression and seeing what options are available to help you (medication, therapy, etc.).
