Isn't it embarrassing for people to know your mental illness?

Never was diagnosed with a mental illness, but I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 12. I don't mind telling people I have it, although I do get embarrassed discussing it if it gets in the way of me doing something. It is apart of why I normally do not mention it if it does.

I do not want people thinking I am using it as an excuse or that I am apart of the misdiagnosed. ADHD does have a serious problem with overdiagnosing especially in kids and medicating them when it's really their lifestyle/environment causing it. It's reputation lowered due to that and just the amount of people saying they have it to seem quirky.

Sometimes. I haven't been officially diagnosed. I see a lot of potential problems. I recognize depression and anxiety. I think I'm also somewhat OCD as well, though not obsessed with cleaning - I am very ritualistic, and I am messy, which some say that's another way it manifests itself. I hate to self diagnose, though, but don't have anything that is official, so right now, it's like... well, that's just... me. My quirks or whatever. Sometimes I would like a diagnosis, though, so I could at least say "Ok, this is why I am having this trouble."

Whenever I took the depression and anxiety (suicidal type) tests, the docs would move/lose my info, ignore it, etc. I was unable to get decent health insurance for ages, and could not afford specialists or anything. I am finally seeing a counselor, but can't really afford it on my own, so sort of stuck with that. She does not seem to diagnose. And right now, there's a lot going on that's going to cost me. I was involved in a bad accident and have head trauma. I'd like to get that handled before I do anything otherwise.

Getting diagnosed can be really expensive for some of these things. I may do some of it if I have time in a year or so.

I have schizophrenia so yes its embarrassing for me. I don't want people knowing that I hear voices that aren't there if I'm not on my meds. I developed it as an adult and it hit me like a freight train. It just happened all of a sudden. One minute I was normal as can be and the next hearing things that aren't there. Very scary illness that I think a lot of people wouldn't understand.

It's was a tabbo and people where locked away before. But thankfully that stupid mindset is gone. it's okay to have mental health issues anyone can have them without even knowing it. Main thing get help one needs and live your best Life.
