I take Effexor for my anxiety, and I always feel spaced out. Come to think of it, I guess being tuned out isn't that bad. Especially since I live in an area full of drug dealers and stupid people!

I was on Zoloft (sertraline) but I stopped after 6 months because I wasn't myself on it. I was like a zombie, I didn't care about anything, couldn't orgasm, had no intrest in sex and I wasn't present in my own life.

@Pterodon my Dr was too quick to prescribe medication. After a month off it I started to feel more like myself, started going to the gym, going to night clubs, eating right, having a better sex life and just living better. Medication isn't always the answer.

Definitely anti depressants don’t cure depression. They make the frequency of a depressive episode fewer and further between and they make the duration of an episode shorter but they don’t cure. This is why there’s still suicides. Depression eventually wears you down. It’s just the meds prolong your life a while longer. You really know nothing about the illness do you

So I'm a bit late getting here but I'm a poster boy for Venlafaxine (Efexor). I had treatment-resistant depression until they put me on that. I'd already been on Sertraline (Zoloft), Paroxetine (Paxil) and Other (Lofepramine, Clomipramine) which didn't do shit.

But don't take that as a recommendation, antidepressants are like girlfriends. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Paxil has worked well for me because it is a SSRI and not a stimulant. I’m bipolar so it not being a stimulant is pretty damn important.
