I had a physical serious illness and all of the tests they were doing on my body and blood were showing that something was found.
They tried to tell me that this certain antidepressant would help me with my physical symptoms. Ha! Yeah right! NOT!
And in my opinion, if you take antidepressants you are still going to have the same exact problems that caused you to go on them in the first place. So I refused to take them.
However, when my son was dying in the hospital 🏥 for the 76 he was in there, I did take them and antianxiety medication because I still had to go to work everyday and then back to the hospital again. A lot of driving every day.
I think that they took the edge off of my anxiety but that could have been from taking antianxiety medication.
One thing that I really don't like about them is that once you start taking them for at least a month or more - you can't just stop taking them. They give you withdrawals. So you have to wiean off of them for about a month or so until you feel better and your head stops spinning.
I really wonder 🤔 if the doctor's are offering antidepressants like they are M&Ms so big pharma gets more money 💰🤑
It's something to consider sis.🌷37 Reply- 4 mo
Thanks I'll consider it. I'm just trying to find the best way to keep from crying at work almost everyday. I can't focus on my job properly feeling like this. I feel like antidepressants would help greatly.
- 4 mo
Well, if it's so bad then try them but be careful which one you're prescribed.
Prozac made my friend very grouchy. I used to ask him "Did you take your grouch pill today"? He stopped taking them. He wasn't even depressed but some doctor peddled them to him and he took them.
I think I took Wellbutrin but I can't remember.
I wish there was something natural that you could eat to help you.
But if you think they are going to stop you from crying at work you'll just have to try them and hope you get the results you need. Good luck 🤞🏼 - 4 mo
Yes if there was something natural to help, I would definitely do it. But I will try Wellbutrin if my doctor prescribes it for me. Thanks again!
- 4 mo
You're welcome! 😊
- 4 mo
No he didn't but I have 1 refill on it.

Oooooh. Tricky one. I started out on Prozac, but had to switch it. Prozac ended up giving me weird dreams. I can't recall the name of the one my doctor switched me to, but I know it starts with an E. At any rate, antidepressants are trial and error.
16 Reply- 4 mo
Ok thanks. I've heard good and bad things about Prozac. Was thinking about Wellbutrin.
- 4 mo
I will definitely do that as soon as he comes back into office. He's out this week unfortunately but will be back Monday. So I can talk with him then about it.
- 4 mo
Thanks. I'm hoping this one works. I've heard really good things about it.
341 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I don’t know about happy and excited at all times , but there are ones that make you feel less stressed about things. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin when I ended up with my lower back injury , just to help eliminate some of my stress , so far it’s working good , not 100 percent , but I been a lot better then I was before. My doctor knows I liked to work out and knows I am all about maintaining my weight , well since I am having a harder time doing so , and gained weight , because he told me I can’t work out unless I want to put myself back into the hospital. So he put me on Wellbutrin to help relieve some of my stress and Wellbutrin is also recommended to help you lose weight as well. Because It curves your appetite and so far I lost like 10 pounds from it and still going. I am bummed out that I can not work out and bummed out by how long it takes to get a friggin appointment. I been dealing with this for 2 years now and i just shake my head by how long it takes to get appointments. They gave me an injection on my back which has subsided the pain some , but not completely, they are trying to fix me without surgery , which they know I need surgery but the insurance is making them do all these useless alternatives to avoid paying for surgery. Just blows my mind

I'm so sorry. That really sucks. I completely understand how you feel. Back in college I had an injury that kept me from working out for a while which was a bummer. I hope that things improve and that you one day soon will be able to get the surgery. As far as the Wellbutrin goes, I just sent an email to my doctor to put me on it because I hear great things about it. How it makes your mood better. So I am hoping he prescribes it. Thanks.
4 moNone of them should make you elated and happy all the time. Most of them in my experience strive to bring you to a more neutral state and help you avoid the sharp edges of elation or tragedy. The super highs and super lows are where emotional and mental trauma occur.
I believe that for most people they are beneficial only in conjunction with psychotherapy where through counseling and various real world techniques, a person can learn to cope and manage their specific situation.
It’s like a temporary reprieve, a needed break to help you catch your breath and reevaluate your actions. Temporary being the key here… The problem with any drugs occur when a person becomes dependent on them to feel ok. The drugs eventually become less effective and the person looks for a higher dose or a stronger drug. Legal or illegal, dependence on substances can become quite problematic.
It is far better to restrict your dependence to natural substances such as healthy food, clean water, exercise, and supportive relationships.21 Reply

4 moOK, now you're mistaken about what antidepressants are slated to do for you.
They do not make you "happy and excited all the time." They are made to lift people who are clinically depressed out of their depression so they can benefit from therapy that will help them work through the reasons for their depression.
There are many antidepressants, and they act differently on different people. There is no way to know how they'll work for you until you take them. And on the other hand, antidepressants have side effects such as killing your sex drive or causing you to gain weight.
So. you have to weigh all these issues when using them.
And, on top of this, most antidepressants only have short-term effects. After about six months, their efficacy may plummet. They are NOT a forever solution.
You need to talk to your psychiatrist about what medication MAY work best for you and you have to work WITH your provider about side effects, efficacy, etc..,,There is simply no one size fits all. Talk to your doctor.

I am going to talk to my doctor. He is on vacation but will be back Monday. That's when I'll talk to him about getting on Wellbutrin. I've read mostly positive reviews about that one. Actually increasing sex drive and killing the appetite due to being nauseous when starting it. I can deal with nausea. But I can't deal with the depression anymore. I almost attempted the worst the other night. So I definitely need to be on something. Again I will talk to him when he gets back. Thanks.
- 4 mo
In the meantime, go outside and talk long walks, or bike rides. Get your heart pumping and get sunlight daily. At least 20 minutes worth. Sets your circadian rhythms and your sleep/wake cycle. Turn off phones and laptops after a certain time nightly-- say 930 pm, so you're falling asleep about 1030. No blue light from the TV, laptop, phone after that time. Messes up sleeping.
Have a cool bed and bedroom. Wellbutrin is an older medication. Ask your doc to compare it to the newer ones and see how it stands up. Good luck. - 4 mo
Yeah I do that everyday. Doesn't help much with how I feel but I try anyways. And I will ask my doctor to compare it to the newer ones. Thanks!
- 4 mo
Don't forget, you need to exercise to the point that your heart is pumping... Raise your base metabolism. Swing those arms, kick up those heels. I'm simply talking about fast walking. Since you're depressed, you might be doing depressed exercising too!!! So push yourself a bit.
You might need to get out early in the morn before work and again early in the evening after dinner, or before. It might take extra effort to get a helpful effect. Not to exhaustion, but you should be sweating and tired after a fast walk. 30 minutes twice a day if you can work it in. See how that affects you. Good luck with the doc. - 4 mo
Thanks and I do HIIT as well as jog most days so I definitely get the heart pumping. That's not my issue. My issue is not being able to get over him and still talking to him makes it harder.
- 4 mo
REMOVE THIS MAN FROM YOUR LIFE! PERIOD... DO NOT TALK TO HIM. Block him on all your devices. Once he is no longer contacting you and you are not contacting him, you can BEGIN to get over him. You cannot if you are involved with him in any way.
Why are you continuing this? Do you need to punish yourself? Treat yourself well. STart today. - 4 mo
Thanks. It's not easy because of the many years we have been good friends but I will try.
- 4 mo
But your heart is broken over him. This is doing you no good. Doesn't bother him, but he seems careless about your feelings. He knows you're still in love with him. He's using you so he doesn't feel guilty about breaking up with you.
"We can still be friends," is the biggest lie when a love relationship ends. 90 percent of the time you cannot still be friends. This is clearly one of those cases.
Maybe, just maybe after you actually get over him and move on by yourself and through another relationship, you might be able to. But certainly not now.
I haven’t, but I know someone who has and almost depends on them, they do have side effects too. Have you considered a more natural approach? Like going for nature walks? Do you know the root of the depression? Maybe it’s a vitamin deficiency. I’ve heard vitamin b12 can be one linked to depression.
23 Reply- 4 mo
I eat pretty healthy and I go for walks everyday unless it's raining and then it's the treadmill. I take multivitamins with b12 in it. So it's just a matter of being heartbroken. I get like this when someone has broken my heart and since this was my first ever real relationship, it hurts 100x more than anything I've ever endured.
- 4 mo
I know the feeling, you feel like you hit rock bottom and absolutely nothing makes you happy, like mourning a loss. My feelings are my own worst enemies, I go to the brink of starvation when I’m heart broken 😅🫠 In the meantime surround yourself with the people that care about you, maybe they can uplift your spirit a little. I feel like pills, just like other drugs, might make you dependent on them. Take time to mourn and I can confidently tell you you will come back to normal 😌
- 4 mo
Thanks. I hope so.
I have, and they just made me feel empty. They did not take away the sadness. I actually had my first serious attempt at ending my life soon after I was put on anti-depressants.
I would encourage thorough research before taking psychiatric drugs, as many of them will do more harm than good. But Big Pharma and the psychiatric system don't want you to know that, because it would cut into their profits.23 Reply- 4 mo
Thanks. I'll do my research. I was thinking about Wellbutrin because some reviews say it's the best one. But I will have to look it up thoroughly before making that my choice.
- 4 mo
Oh wow. Ok I'll definitely do that.
4 moThey really don't make you happy. They make you stable. I basically am a zombie.
Everyone is different and reacts to medication differently. Some people require different meds than others.
I could tell you what I'm on; but it may not work the same.13 Reply- 4 mo
Looking at the reviews for Wellbutrin and they seem mostly positive. I may ask my doctor to put me on that.

Thats one I'm on. Not too bad. Im on 2 others.

4 moI have taken almost every anti depressant, anti psychotic, mood stabilizer, anxiety medicine and many more. No medicine made me happy... or made me better. I found happiness when I quick looking for in the world around me and I found it in myself. You don't look for happiness in outcomes, you find happiness in doing... I hope the best for you, stay positive, never stop working on yourself. You got this!

m 4 moTry a moodlifter (like Lorazepam) first, they are milder and, as I have the impression, better researched. I had a positive experience using Tavor (Ativan in the U. S.).

Be careful with Lorazepam. It's habit forming and has high abuse potential.
- 4 mo

That's true and I don't encourage self-medication, but an official prescription. And I know that the Lorazepam content in moodlifters is very mildly dosed. I have no complaints. - 4 mo

I'm on Abilify right now and want to get on Wellbutrin. Do you think I would have the same issue?
- 4 mo
@Simslover92 Abilify is an antipsychotic. It's not a good drug to treat depression and it's definitely not a drug you want to be on long-term.
- 4 mo
@AngryCarl2 thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
376 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I've never taken them but I know they are no cure all, and I heard you gain weight from these type of meds as well.
12 Reply- 4 mo
Wellbutrin has positive reviews concerning that. I haven't seen one say that so far. The only downside is you may be nauseous a lot when starting out which I can handle. But the way that I feel now I just can't handle it anymore.
- 4 mo
I’m sorry n9thing is working
4 moI take Efexor which is the only one that ever worked for me, because my condition is described as "treatment resistant". No antidepressant will make you happy and excited, that's not how they work. A good one will make you emotionally stable and not suicidal, may also make you more energetic and less anxious.
Some people argue that they also have a brain numbing effect over time, but that's never been properly researched.
10 ReplyFortunately I have never needed them. I find that if I am having a down or a blue day going for a run outside always helps.

Only in the moment and then it comes right back.

- 4 mo
The breakup. I know it's been almost a year but I'm still grieving.
- 4 mo
Just the loss of the relationship? Regrets on things you did?
- 4 mo
I was very depressed while in the relationship. I should have been on antidepressants then because it was ultimately the demise of the relationship. He just couldn't take it anymore.
- 4 mo
But what are the underlying issues you're dissatisfied with?
- 4 mo
Not being married or have children. Not being in the career I want to be in. Being in so much debt that I can barely make ends meet.
- 4 mo
So which one of those things can you change? Your career?

Jobs are hard to come by these days. Took me several months to land the job I have now. But I want to be in my field of study which is library science. There aren't many jobs here in the library field.
- 4 mo
what about a job that has elements about the things you like with being in a library but not necessarily in that field?
- 4 mo
Currently at a job like that but it just doesn't pay well
- 4 mo
can you find one that does?
- 4 mo
Nope. Where I live it's not many jobs that pay well.
- 4 mo
Unless you have the experience

so then can you move?

Can't afford it right now
- 4 mo
If you have nothing but excuses on why things can't change I don't doubt you're depressed.
- 4 mo
Which is why I need to be on an antidepressant particularly Wellbutrin.
- 4 mo
Why do you think artificial chemicals are needed to do things?
- 4 mo
Because I've tried everything else. Nothing keeps the depression away.
- 4 mo
I'm sure you could find better alternatives.
No and would avoid medication for such issues when there are beter self help methods
