Does anyone feel a little sick after drinking from a Stanley Cup or any other tumbler?

I’ve been using tumblrs for quite some time now but mainly for taking hot drinks on the go. Recently, I bought the Stanley Cup 40oz to drink cool water during the day. I also have another brand 20oz tumbler. I use both with the straws that come with them. Im not sure if it’s just a coincidence but any time I drink from these tumblers with the straw I begin to feel a little sick. My throat feels sort of scratchy, not quite sore but not normal. I throughly clean them so I know it’s not dirty. Even though it’s said to be BPA free, I wonder if the plastic is making me feel this way. Has anyone ever felt this way? Thanks!

Update: I found a solution. I hope it’ll work for everyone else. I wiped the plastic straw and the inside of the Stanley with regular white vinegar. I especially focus on the wiping the straw throughly as it gets rid of any plastic taste.

Companies can claim that something is BPA-free when it’s not, but I don’t know the quality of your tumbler. It could be from the straw. I know you clean it thoroughly, but they can be hard to sanitize. If you have a dishwasher I’d put the straw in so the heat can kill the bacteria.

Are you sure they are getting clean?
There have been studies done, including one on our local radio station and the found that they were not getting clean.
The one was a female DJ, and hers was just awful, and she was shocked at all that was on it.
She thought she was cleaning it really well.
Just a thought.

You sound like having an allergy reaction to the plastic of some kind that deals with the tumbler, but hard to say.

Hi, thanks for the response. I thought it was this but it wasn’t. I soaked the straws overnight in white vinegar and dish soap and so far it’s okay.

Hi, yes I was. Very thoroughly as well, inside and out with the straw cleaner tool that comes with it. I decided to soak it in vinegar and dish soap overnight and it helped. According to Google, the taste can be pretty normal but non toxic, and goes away with time and each wash. I wonder what causes it tho?

Same, my husband bought me my first Stanley , name brand and all, and ever since, my throat and voice is having issues I am not sick and its not laryngitis either , first I lost my laugh, its not the same, then a week past and I lost my voice now another week later I am having trouble swelling so I stopped using it. I to was cleaning it thoroughly but the only thing that changed in my life was me using this Stanley. So I have stopped and we will see if this inflammation goes down, it is so weird, my voice comes and goes and is raspy, I do not smoke , I do not vape, I do not drink alcohol, I am not a singer. There should be no reason to have had my voice box, esophagus get like this.

I meant swallowing* just sipping water and I choke! I made an appointment with a throat Dr as well but its a month out. So for now I have to be mindful sippy drinks and small bites

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing all of this! Similar symptoms happened to me, but it stopped once I started wiping the straw and the inside of the cup with regular white vinegar. The plastic taste also went away. I wash it everyday but only do the vinegar wipe once a month. I hope everything gets better!

I am experiencing the same thing with my Stanley tumbler which I received as a gift 2 months ago. This happened from the very 1st time I used it, therefore it shouldn't have had bacteria build up. I hand was & sterilize it and make sure it is completely dry before putting the lid back on. I will try without the straw in hopes that it will make a difference.
