Is this meant to be a joke question lol. It happened almost at the bottom of the ocean. Like many thousands of feet under water. They would have exploded if they tried to swim out. Also from all accounts they were bolted into the sub from the outside.

That's completely impossible under 12,000 feet of water. Human bodies can't withstand such pressures, nor could they possibly reach the surface under their own power.

The access hatch was bolted to the flange with 16 bolts from the OUTSIDE. They were sealed inside, and could not have escaped if they wanted to. Had the dive been successful, a crew would have had to free them when they surfaced.

It might be believable in theory but not in practice, they were miles below sea level and would have crushed to death from the force of water if the explosion did not kill them before that.

Not possible. They were bolted in and the hatch could only be opened by the support ship. Even if they could have gotten out, they would have been immediately crushed by the water pressure.
