Do you have now, or ever had a swimming pool?

Question

They are pretty common in California. Although people don't put in pools anymore because they don't like taking care of them, as they do require maintenance and chemicals. Depending on how the condition of your pool, it can add value or subtract it. But in my neighborhood, they are quite common. What it is though is a place to cool off, get exercise, have pool parties, and great for the grandchildren when they visit. And if by chance there are wildfires, you have a water supply to draft from.

I never have.
Several people on our street had them when I was growing up. I swam in the pool that belonged to our across the street neighbors anytime I wanted, which was a lot. It's where I learned to swim at a very young age.
In my teens, one of my best friends had a pool that we swam in all the time. We used to dive off of the peaked roof of their house.

The ocean is my pool & if I want to go swimming it’s a quick drive & I’m there. If I look out my back windows I have a beautiful pond that I share with seven of my neighbors & although you could probably go swimming in it the alligators probably wouldn’t like it.

My older sister & my brother in law have a saltwater pool which is nice & refreshing.

We almost did... but my parents told me that the thing would be too big. And wouldn't fit in our backyard. The man, my mom and my dad stood...16 feet apart. So in my little mind, i was guessing how big that was. But looking back now, they probably told me that because caring, buying, placing and all that shi for POOL... was expensive af.

One of my family members had a pool at their house. It was so nice to enjoy time without a bunch of people (like in a public pool). There were times that I used it for a good swim workout too, in the early hours of the morning.

It is a lot of work to maintain if you live a busy lifestyle.

I never have and am perfectly happy forgoing one for life. They’re costly and require a lot of maintenance. I don’t see the point. I like to swim and all, but not enough to fork out thousands more a year. Also, risk of drowning for young children and animals. It’s the leading cause of unnatural death for toddlers. Perfectly fine without one.

We had a 30 foot above ground pool for many years. I bought it really cheap at the send of the summer and set it up myself. I used to build swimming pools the summer before I went to college. My kids and their friends used it a lot. We probably had it for ten or 12 years. Once my kids started driving they did not use the pool anymore so i put an ad in the paper and sold it,

Yes and no. When I was in my teens my father was a policeman. And the department my father worked for had a recreational building that had a pool that all the cops and thier families could use. Not many of them used it after sun down so a lot of times I'd go swimming there alone or with a few friends in the summer.

So it wasn't my own pool but I had a key to it and it felt like it when no one else was there. Which was most the time I went.

When my kids were growing up, we had an above ground pool. When we amicably divorced, we sold the house. Now, I live in a complex that has a neighborhood pool... that I rarely use.

Not yet, but as soon as the children are old enough and have learnt to swim, then it's definitely on our plans to have one built.

Yep. In my grandparents’ village where I spent holidays, we had a swimming pool, but my mom decided to destruct it this summer and make something else on that place. I grew up swimming either there, either in a river or a Black Sea.

We had one back in the '80's. It was a lot of work and cost to maintain, but we got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Without it, you feel kind of like a prisoner during the summer and stay inside with the air cond.
