Why don't MMA fighters wear cups?

It seems like guys should really protect themselves so they don't take a shot to the testicles like this guy:

Actually and funnily enough, they *are* required but only for the guys lol. You'll notice before every UFC fight the fighters have a little cup check if their guys.
Not so for girls though, for them it's optional

@amysqs5 The groin cup helps, but it isn't a magic bullet! It can disperse the energy from the kick so that the area around the groin absorbs most of the impact, but the testicles will still get hurt at least to some extent -- either from the cup pressing into them, or them bouncing around inside the cup if it isn't sitting right, or if, heaven forbid, one or both of the testicle has slipped to the side so that the hard edge of the side of the cup is sitting on it/them when the kick lands. 🤢

Yes they are the balls are not fully protected by cups. It hurts too bad to continue many times.

It sucks... even if a cup can block 90% of the pain, 10% still gets through. And when it comes to a kick in the balls, 10% is enough to end the fight a lot of the time

@amysqs5 - yeah, it is still definitely gonna hurt. A friend of mine was hit in the nuts by a lacrosse ball while wearing a cup, and it was so devastating that he actually had one of his testicles removed.

Balls are super sensitive. I double over if someone flicks mine. So a full-power kick would wreck a guy.

In our martial arts 🥋 (Krav Maga) some of the fights happened without any cup like the real life to learn to save your groin better. And woman and man allowed to win with kick to the groin.🤔😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Why would girls need to wear one since they don't have testicles. It's the same as getting hit/kicked in the leg or arm.

It's not necessary. Pro fighters don't aim there. Even if it were legal, most high level fighters know that It's difficult to land a groin shot against a defensively responsible opponent.

It happens by accident sometimes, like for that guy. It happens in UFC by accident but they get time to recover, and I think a lot of them probably have cups

Even eye gouges happen by accident in the UFC. I don't think there is a specific rule about cups. I'm sure some of them choose to wear them. But for the purposes of the compilation the rule is what's already in place to prevent it. Having a rule and protection for it seems like overkill.

You're still having a piece of plastic slammed into your groin. It doesn't NOT hurt to get kicked when you have a cup on it just hurts way way WAY less.

No because whatever it is is still getting rammed against your body, and it hurts where it comes into contact with flesh. Getting shot with bullet proof armor on still feels like getting hit with a hammer. Beats being shot, yeah, but it doesn't tickle.

If it’s a competition ALL male mma fighters must wear a cup it is against the rules not to. This has been a rule in all mma fights since 1993. They will not let you compete without one and it has to be a good cup too. Also if you look at their spandex it’s really obvious they are wearing one you can see the shape.


Guys are sensitive and cups move so a hard hit will still smash the cup into the balls sometimes which is why it isn’t enough

@AmyQs5 yeah it is a problem in mma definitely there is an entire insta just showing nut shots bc it happens so often. by the way usually the cup isn’t caved in or anything or out of place it’s just a hard bit there smashes it into the balls and causes lots of movement so still painful especially if hit from below

They are a hindrance for the boys to move around quickly. Plus they are not a lot more effective for them. I hit my boyfriend in the park because he was wearing a cup and he wanted to test it and I saw that I had caught him a bit harsh because he was on the floor groaning in pain and cried and said it still hurt him but not as much as if he didn't have a cup on. I still feel sorry for him and other boys I have made crying 😢

In many places you don't put a cup, but according to the rules you are not allowed to kick the balls. In a small part of martial arts it is also allowed to kick the balls to win like in real life.🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

I personally definitely prefer battles without shields like in real life. It also teaches you to defend much better. Men still win in most cases even in mixed fights without defenders.

My balls are pretty big so they sit on the bottom of the cup so you feel it if the kick connects with that bottom part of the cup.
