How many pounds will I lose if I go 5 days without food?

Been there, done that. Honey, it’s not gonna work. After those 5 days, you’re gonna start gaining back all the weight you lost (maybe even even more) when you go back to eating.


The only way to lose weight is to eat at a caloric deficit. What does this mean? This means you must eat fewer calories than your body burns in a day. If you eat fewer calories than your body burns in a day, you will lose weight.


Now, how can you know how many calories you burn in a day? You can know this by figuring out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). Your TDEE is how many calories your body burns just by existing and doing normal activities.

All you have to do is enter your gender, your age, your height, your weight, and your activity level (choose the option of “sedentary” if you don’t exercise). Once you press calculate, you will get a number. That’s the number of calories your body burns just by you existing (from your organs working, from you sleeping, from you moving, from you talking, etc).


To lose weight, you must eat fewer calories than your TDEE calorie number.


So from now on, you must track the calories of everything that you eat…. and make sure it STAYS UNDER your TDEE.

None. You'll be so hungry, you'll stuff your face after extreme fasting. If you want to do fasting, consult a good tome about how to do it. Intermittent is the latest thing, and many people find it doable.

But for long-lasting weight loss, consult a dietition, and lose slowly and surely by cutting down on highly processed, high fat, high sugar foods, eat loads of vegetables, fresh fruit, lean meats, and less of everything.

Portion control and becoming active if you're not, or adding more activity keeps excess weight off. Also, cook for yourself. You know exactly what you're putting in your food. Use fresh ingredients. Plan cooking days: once a week cook for the week and have a variety of good food on hand so you won't make eat-out, fast food errors.

Starving yourself is not a practical diet strategy.

Probably none! When you stop eating, your body goes into starvation mode and anything you eat after that, for a while, gets stored up as fat because your body doesn't know that it's only gonna be for 5 days! It's gonna do what it can to keep you alive in case it's gonna be a much longer fast.

the pounds you will lose is mostly water.
the body will only just have emptied it's food and energy reserves after 5 days. so you will only burn a bit of fat.
it will also detox you. 5 days is a nice fast, if you are skinny.

No idea. However, I recommend doing a slow caloric deficit of no more than -500 calories per day. It's the safer option. You'll still lose the weight, but won't put yourself at risk.

About 10 pounds when I was in the hospital and not allowed to have food for that long and was on an IV , it all comes back after a few weeks unless you control your portions and eat less calories than you burn but you’ll always be hungry
