Can I do hip thrusts with the barbell at the gym with an IUD inserted?

Here are a few things to consider with hip thrusts and an IUD:

- Your IUD placement is very recent, so it's best to avoid any heavy lifting or intense exercises for at least the first week as your body adjusts. The extra pressure from lifting could potentially displace the IUD.

- Hip thrusts do apply direct pressure to the pelvic area where the IUD is located. Over time as your body adjusts, this type of exercise is generally fine. But for now it's best to avoid them.

- Listen to your body - if you feel any sharp pains, cramps or discomfort in your lower abdomen during or after exercise, stop immediately. That could indicate the IUD is being irritated.

- Stick to lower impact exercises like walking, elliptical, leg lifts etc. for the first couple weeks instead of thrusts or other weighted lifts. Let your body settle in to the IUD.

- Check your strings occasionally after your next period to make sure the IUD is in the right place. If concerned, see your doctor.

Better safe than sorry - I'd avoid hip thrusts specifically until your checkup. Your body needs time to adapt to the IUD first before challenging it with weight training moves. Hope your recovery goes smoothly!

You would have been informed when getting it inserted that you should take it easy for a few weeks after the procedure. Hip thrusts at the gym the day after an insertion is just asking for problems. Use common sense. You’ve had a foreign object inserted into your body. It needs time for the tissue to hold it in place before you do strenuous activity with your pelvis/hips.

I'd take time to adjust for awhile. Don't do any exercises or lift anything heavy for a little bit.
