Did you ever look someone up on the internet and found out something you weren't expecting?

When I first moved into my apartment they had a library and a computer. I was so anxious to get in touch with my old friends from my school days.
The first one I looked up was my friend Coral. But what came up in my search was not her address and phone number. It was her obituary. I was so shocked. She died when she was 53 from lung cancer.
I felt so bad because all of us girls started smoking cigarettes when we were 13. I used to smoke with her form the beginning. The rest of us are still alive. Why did she get lung cancer and the rest of us didn't?

My best friend moved away 4 years ago. We had kept in touch by email. I always heard from him at Christmas. I did not hear from him this year. I emailed him but did not hear back. I poked around on the internet and found out he died last November.

WOW! Isn't it a shocker to find out when a good friend passes away? I just sat there and stared at the computer when I found Coral's obituary.
Is he the friends you have spoken about many times on GaG?
I remember you wanted to go see him, and now it's too late.
Was he around your age? Did you find out the reason he passed away?

He was my age. We have been friends since second grade.
he was treated for colon cancer before he moved and always said he was doing good. His obit said to donate to the American Cancer Society so maybe it came back. IU am planning on driving to Florida this year and I was going to stop and see him on the way.

If I start looking people up I might be surprised too, certain people have genetics that can handle cigarette smoking and some can’t, my stepdad still smokes since 13 years old and is 78 years old with no health problems

I had found a few friends from my twenties, that had passed on. That wasn't expected!

Also I looked up the lady who I was dating when I was out of college and I was 23 and 24, and somewhere along the line she married a woman and adopted a child with her. Now THAT really took me by surprise!!

Some people just don't get it like the commercials say we will. Your friend might of gotten it anyway even without the smoking. Life is just a big toss-up like that... and we all have to die from something.

I was reminiscing about people I once knew. I looked up an old girlfriend on the Internet and found that she had passed away. I read her obituary and was very glad to hear that she had led a good life, got married and had kids.

Yeah, 1 of the guys I was in juvie with who had been on TV for escaping with 3 others... was 1 of the best basketball players I've been around. Smooth lefty game, high IQ and could get by anyone in every way. He's turned out to be a serial rapist, home invader and armed robber. I left and went 3,000 miles away. So when people say you can't run away from your problems... well, he stayed... and...
