I believe it is, it looks like the CDC's STI surveillance report for 2024. If it is, then yes it’s the most accurate map of new STI case data we have in the US. I was shocked to see Mississippi was the #1 state for new STI, (Formerly STD) infections this year with 48,183 Total new STD Cases, 23,919 Chlamydia Cases, 13,773 Gonorrhea Cases, 9,713 HIV Cases, and only 778 Syphilis Cases! My god, I’m so glad that I’m extremely picky about who I have sex with, that I don’t have sex with guys for usually at least 6 to 12 months after a first date, and insist on both condoms, and pulling out until we are BOTH tested for everything! I could not imagine being a promiscuous woman who does bareback sex b/c I’m on the pill! It’s like that’s great, but there are ATB resistant strains of Syphilis, and Gonorrhea! Imagine dying from ATB resistant Syphilis in 2024, when HIV/AIDS is completely treatable now? Again I’m just glad I’m off the dating “meat market”!

There isn't much difference between 600 and 800 really so I wonder how much is just down to how the data is collected. It would be interesting to see a more detailed breakdown by individual std or see if there's a link to political lines, education levels etc. There's probably hot spots within the states too
Do they count all stds? They're only a tiny fraction of the UK rates
Educated folk have plenty of s*x, but seemingly procreate less than their less-educated peers.
How bad are the UK rates?
Lambeth, London has 3060 per 100k
Holy crap !!!
Well, I think if we're being honest and look at the STD rates by race as well as state, we'll see that it's due to promiscuity and a lack of safe sex. The "availability of health care" (whatever that means since free clinics often treat STDs) is irrelevant because it comes into play after STD symptoms are noticed.
Someone mentioned the especially high STD rates at the Villages in Florida- that's well known and due to a lack of concern about unwanted pregnancies (not an issue for the over 55 set).

Looks very similar to this distribution, doesn't it?

I voted Yes once I saw California and the "Republican looking states to the right (east) and I for one expected better of most Californians. After all, I for one with a foreigner Democrat left mind, would be all about condoms, health care, birth control, monogamy, testing, health. 😋👀💘😌 Ah well
I would say it is about right and is going to skyrocket with the 8 to 10 million untested and unvaccinated illegals start interacting with the locals and the blossoming number of prostitutes starting to advertise in sex papers and magazines Thanks to Joe Biden's open borders
Probably accurate. When I lived in NC I remember my obgyn being worried about pregnant women catching stds just from being in the hospital because there was such a high rate of them in that area
Holy crap, Batgirl !!!
I have no idea but it is useful to know where not to get sex and where to get sex. Sadly I imagine it is much harder to get sex in the green states but much easier in the brown states.
It is not a perfect world.
No... The counts in the northeast, Cali and FL are DEFINITELY off (lower on the chart) than in current research. I don't know about the midwest bc I never did research for those areas.
1) Midwest and South have low rates of health care insurance & availability plus birth control restrictions
2) NY & CALI just makes sense because reasons
3) The further South & Southwest the more elderly and those people are gettin BUSY in that assisted living facility!!
@DrPepper12 I have heard about these old roosters laying pipe like kings in retirement homes. Not all heroes wear capes!
@KrakenAttackin its all true!! WE know how grandma really broke her hip!!
@DrPepper12. She was screaming "give it to me daddy, daddy"! The whole time!
I would have expected Florida to be higher, considering The Villages and Miami are full of STD's
Baltimore, a Southern city, was once called "STDimore!!!"
Southern lads and lasses have long prided themselves on their s*xual abstinence, yet many Southern states have a high STD occurrence. Lots of boppin' going on behind the pious facade !!!
True. My friend from AR will say the same. They got teenage pregnancies there still
@WhiteBoyChill Lack of real s*x ed in schools because of the religious fanatics,.
Well, if they actually cared about being “good Christians” they’d know sex outside of marriage is a sin
Would not know if the map shown is accurate but here is the what the figures from last year;

I don't know but seeing this makes me glad to be a virgin
My dumb ass thought that was a temperature graph. Also, goddamn Alaska. I was not expecting that one
Looks pretty accurate, and I would say it's a mixture of the two factors you mentioned.
Couldn’t possibly be if California isn’t on the high end of the scale.
Per the update, it’s going to be a bit of both, i suspect. We spread STIs & STDs with low standards for sexual contact. Since most people are probably not very likely to self report, the statistics almost certainly come from healthcare organizations of some kind.
You did, however, leave out a prevailing factor: education. Notice the deep south states that likely consider sex education amoral are the darkest. Statistics also indicate that those states have higher rates of unplanned pregnancies.
Looks about right. In places with less medical care, there is more STIs
Those places are almost always in the South.
I am surprised at New Mexoco but the rest seem okay
Isn't New Mexico pretty right wing?
@handsomelad70 I used to think that. I think they get illegal aliens to vote.
@handsomelad70: New Mexico is run by Democrats- it is definitely not "right wing"
@handsomelad70: So have Massachuetts and Maryland. Would you consider them "right wing states? I guess you'll next tell me Jeremy Corbyn is "right wing".
New Mexico has voted for one Republican presidential candidate since 1988 (Bush 43 from neighboring Texas). It hasn't elected a Republican US Senate candidate since 2002. Democrats have controlled the state House of Representatives continuously since 1955 except for a two year period and the state Senate continuously since 1933 except for one legislative session in the 1980s.
Then again leftists like you expect de jure one-party rule and if you don't get it, label the electorate "right wing".
I think it correlates to the poverty rate fairly closely too.
It has to due mostly wit health care availability which is shitty All over the US.
what the heck is going on in Alaska... lol
@NathanDavis Probably a combination of not many people, and not much else to do on those long dark winter nights... gives a high per capita number.
I’m just surprised Missouri and Oklahoma seem too high
Interestingly areas with more racial diversity and gays have higher rates…
I wince at the thought of the life of someone who'd actually be in a position to know.
No. Alaska seem much too high and Florida far too low.
West Virginia needs a recount...
Maybe they keep it in the family. 🙈🙊🙉
No clue, but that's scary if it's correct.
I think Florida needs a recount.
No , NY, Florida, and Georgia should be higher. It's the states with the most homosexuals
The Slut States
NO, it's not accurate
it's accurate enough for the whole of USA
No idea.
I think I need to move if it is.
Jesus, what happened in Alaska?
