First, I'm not a native English speaker please understand. A year ago, I was sitting in class, jotting down things into my notebook then I noticed I was seeing white spots all over the place, and I knew they weren't actually there. After the class ended, my head was hurting like hell. I have a bad sleep schedule so this regularly happens. I didn't think much of it and thought maybe it'd get better if I laid down and took a nap. I was listening to music as I laid. As I was laying I began to stop understanding what the lyrics were saying. It was weird, so I sat up, looked down at my textbook, then I couldn't understand what the words on it were. I was panicking. I went outside thinking it'd get better but it didn't. I started freaking out and crying so I went over to my friend and asked her to help me. She was confused then told me to try to speak or write something down. Fyi, I know three languages fluently. So, I tried to write something entirely in Khmer but the sentence would be of all three languages involuntarily. I couldn't read, I couldn't speak, if I could they were just gibberish and a bunch of incoherent speech. My ears were ringing, whatever people were talking to me It comes as an echo. I could understand but couldn't get my words out at all, I was completely tongue tied. I heard that this might be a stroke? It happened once, and I'm just curious about this. Please be kind!

Based on the symptoms you described, it does sound like it could potentially have been a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is sometimes called a "mini-stroke." Some key things that make me think TIA:
- The sudden onset of visual disturbances like seeing white spots.
- Severe headache starting after the visual issues.
- Trouble understanding speech and reading/comprehending written words (receptive language problems).
- Difficulty speaking coherently yourself (expressive language issues).
- Everything you described happened abruptly, not gradually.
A TIA is caused by a temporary disruption in blood flow to the brain, usually caused by a blood clot. It typically resolves within 24 hours, unlike a full stroke where the damage is more extensive.
It's good you recognized something wasn't right and got help from your friend. Seeing a doctor as soon as possible after a TIA is important to evaluate your risk for a permanent stroke. They may do scans or refer you to a neurologist.
Given this only happened once, and assuming you've seen a doctor since with no recurrence, the prognosis is generally good. But following up with your doctor can help make sure there are no lingering issues or risks that need addressing. Let me know if any other questions come up!
Thank you so much !❤️
No problem sis! Always here if you need someone to talk to about stuff. Crazy thing to go through, but I'm glad you're feeling better now. You take care of yourself alright? Make sure to mention it to your doc the next time you go, just to put your mind at ease. But really, try not to stress about it too much. Feel better!
This is definitely concerning! So was it a one time episode or has it continued?
One time only. Like I said it has been a year and it never happens again
I was feeling numb too
This sounds like a very minor stroke or something very similar. Did you ever see a doctor about it?
I never did tbh. I told my mom about this but she thought that since it's just a one time thing it wouldn't be necessary
