Have you ever had to fast for a medical procedure? Maybe religious reasons? How did you get through 24 hours? IM DYING?

I mean how much soup broth and lemon ices can one possibly have? 5 liters of water into this and I'm just really hangry. I'm taking brunch suggestions from a REAL NY diner when this is over!!

I've fasted for 5 days total (water electrolytes only), for personal challenge, mental clarity, and weight lose experimentation.

I actually enjoy fasting and prefer to fast regularly.

It just helps me feel better and helps me be grateful for having such easy access to excess food.

It was less for weight loss and more for the mental clarity.

Yeah, but the weight lost like that is mostly water weight and retained water since your body loses the glycogen it holds water in the more you fast.

For medical procedures, simple (unsalted) bone stalk got me through in terms of meals. Coffee in the morning too.

For religious stuff there are usually rules that prevent folks from going stir crazy. For example...

• Muslim families can eat to their heart's content till the sun starts rising, then they have to stop till sundown; if they do it right, they're not really hungry till sundown anyway... hello intermittent fasting.
• Christian families abstain from certain foods during specific holidays, at which time you're basically vegan. Strict Orthodox christians fast till noon then limit their diet to very harsh vegan standards for up to 40 days. (This includes four seasonal fasts in addition ot any personal/family mourning periods.)
• Jewish families also have seasonal fasting periods...
• Many Hindu & Buddhist families observe periods of fasting and often a consistently vegan or pescatarian diet...

There's more, of course, but you get the idea. There are a ton of articles about it online to help you along.

Distraction. Remind yourself it's your body doing a good job of telling you what it needs.
Books help me as I can pour a cup of tea, sit down with a good story, exit 20 chapters later to find my tea cold and really hungry. I was so absorbed I didn't notice signals in reality.

The most I’ve had to fast was in the 12 hours before surgery, which is why I always tried to schedule them for early in the morning. Never had to do more than that, hopefully never will. Best of luck to you though
